Where to start...is NASA HPDE1 a good place?

I am looking at some local options to get to drive my car in a controlled enviornment.. I learned that there is going to be a NASA event at a local track in two weeks. I have ZERO experience and was wondering if an event like this that offers instruction would be worth the time and money..It would be a little over $300 for the weekend. Input...opinions?

Absolutely!!

Be a sponge and just focus on the learning and having fun!!

I think that's the SE chapter - they have a good rep, as does the mid-atlantic if you wanted to get over to VIR.

I started with Hooked on Driving and love it. Very easy going but I am just out there for fun, not timing laps and I have no interest with competition. If you are more interested in going around the track fast and want to record times you should take a driving class. Some of our members like Cloud9 that are very into HPD recommend that. I will wait for the Miller day and then see if I want to do more classes after.

I had never driven a road course before but recommend that everyone gets the Boss out there at least once. The car is so well balanced that even a beginner can have fun, go fast and not worry about hurting the car

I wholeheartedly recommend NASA HPDEs as a way to start - just listen to the instructor and you will be amazed how quickly you start pushing the car.

Yes, NASA DE1 is a great place to start. They will give you a full day of instruction both in the car and out of the car including 80 mins of track time.

Do it.

They have (4) of their BOSSes now, I think they are working on caging them. They are still waiting for quite a few more.

It was slick that day too, look through the album, haha. The 944 drivers who preferred loose setups / welded diffs managed to find themselves in the gravel in the last two turns before start/finish. I just did a couple sessions and decided best to shoot the rest of the day. (Also crewed a 944 who found himself DQ'ed after changing positions on a warmup lap and skipping 5-6 laps of blackflags )

I heard that Bondurant had just resurfaced the track a couple weeks before. Got a buddy that rides motorcycles there with CCS and he said a lot of guys wouldn't even get on the track again until 2012 due to the slickness.

NASA SE is great! They are at Charlotte Roval this weekend. I can't make that one but instruct with them at alot of events.

NASA Mid Atlantic is at VIR the 22-24 and I may be instructing if I don't race. If your interested in having another Boss 302 guy as your instructor, let me know!

This is the way to go - an instructor that has the same car, or Very similar
