Want a Boss, love the black, but don't need an LS

Hey all,

Been a Mustang fan for a number of years. Summer of this year we sold our 06' Saleen S/C. While I don't miss the non-existent comfort of those seats, I do miss the sound and performance.

I've been eyeing the Boss since it came out last year. I really liked the Kona Blue 2012, and for 2013 the Black LS just GRABS me. If I were to get a Boss, THAT is the color I'd want. The thing is, I don't really need the LS. I'd like the back seat, but I really really like the black on silver.

Anyone know of the cross-bar is removable? I doubt I'd have a hard time finding someone to trade the bar for seats, or to buy seats outright, but would this be a slight on all those LS owners?

I may be moving jobs soon, and if I do, I'll be taking a serious look at the Boss. The job would require a lot more driving, so I'd "give" the electric car to the GF (lease limitations) and take something fun to work. When looking at other fun cars, you're hard pressed to find something that can give the performance of the Stang and maintain the decent MPG.

Apologies for the lengthy material surrounding the pretty basic question .

I think you would end up with a lot of headache just to remove the bar and get seats, it does suck not having the color you absolutely love though. I had the same dilemma when looking at a Boss, I loved the Grabber blue but they didn't make them in that color so I settled with the Kona. I think if you got an LS for street driving you would hate yourself also, unless you like a stiff ride, from what I have read the LS is at it's softest the hardest setting on the regular Bosses, which can be a little annoying over bumps.

I wasn't aware the LS had different suspension settings than the regular 302. I thought it was the X-brace, tires, and front adjustable splitter that made it a better track car.

It also has the upgraded struts, not sure about the springs but I believe they are a little stiffer as well.

Brandon is right about the dampers. However, the X-Brace isn't that hard to unistall/install and you will easily find someone who will trade you for a rear seat. I don't think the LS is too stiff for DD but that is just my opinion. I had an '11 GT with a complete track suspension on it was way worse than an LS but I still drove it to and from work. I agree that the black/gray stripes is an awesome combo. If you are sold on that color, than I would go that route.

Can anyone point me to some links or documentation about the suspension differences? I've never seen it before.

Post 1 in the thread above, the Boss is back !

A couple of files at the bottom of post 1 with the differences between a regular boss and an LS.

Hope this helps.

Here is a link to an article that discusses some of the differences:

http://www.asphaltplayground.net/con...stang-Boss-302

"The 5-way adjustable Tokico shocks on the Boss 302 means you can drive to the track, dial up the suspension, win your race, then turn things back down for a comfortable ride home. The Laguna Seca version gets even more dampening as the highest selection on standard Boss’ dampeners are equivalent to the 1st position on the LS version."

"Up front a 34.6mm stabilizer bar helps keep the car’s body roll under control on both versions of the Boss. A 26mm bar is fitted in the rear of the Laguna Seca and a 25mm bar is standard. Compare those to the 34mm front and 24mm rear of the GT500 and the 34.6mm tubular/24mm solid front and rear stabilizers bars from the GT. Both versions of the Boss 302 employ stiffer bushings in the panhard bar to keep the rear axle locate properly during high-G cornering."

Thanks to both of you for the additional info. I didn't doubt it was true, I just didn't find any information on it in the package differences when building an LS on Ford's website. Hows' the stiffest setting on the regular Boss for DD duty? Would the LS on the softest be too jarring for everyday use?

I drove my Boss at 5/5 front and back for a while and the roads around me are pretty bumpy and it isn't that bad. I would see if you can find someone near you that will give you a ride in a Boss and see if they can set it to full stiff and see how it feels.

Setting 5 on a regular boss is = to setting 2 on a Laguna Seca.

I drive mine on setting 3 and it's just a little rough on the roads around here.
