Video: BOSS Baseline Dyno (+ exhaust disc removal)
Video: BOSS Baseline Dyno (+ exhaust disc removal)
Video of the dyno runs last night, it was just real quick get on, do a run, take out the accenuator discs in the sidepipes, and do another run for comparison. We didn't hook up any sensors so you won't see RPM or A/F readings on the dyno chart at the end of the video. You'll also be able to hear the difference in exhaust tone between runs, I'm thrilled with the throaty sound of the unrestricted side pipes!

nice dude, dynojet? i am rather surprised that these cars are putting down the same numbers i have seen from dead stock GTs. oh what gear was that pull in?

so i know dynos are just tools, but i guess it is safe to assume inside line did thier dyno on track key or they just fudged the numbers lol. a guy in my local club put down 380whp on a box stock 11 5.0. with 30-ish more hp i was hoping these cars would be in the 400whp range at least. How many miles do you ahve on your car OP?
The dyno is about 130 miles away, so after the roundtrip last night, I'm sitting at 700 now.

cool, so after a few thousand it may change a bit. its interesting though if inside line was on red key that means it has roughly 30more whp assumign they didnt just outright lie or make the pull in another gear. dont you get higher readings if a pull is made in 4th?
Sounds great w/ the discs out.
Sounds awesome with the discs out!
OK, so using 17% drivetrain loss which isn't unreasonable for a Tremec and 8.8, you're looking at 458 HP at the flywheel with the discs out.
Oh, and your 1/8th mile run? Best run my 3650 lb KB supercharged 5L @ 11 psi has done to date is 11.96 @ 118 MPH. The 1/8th on that run was 7.714 @ 89.47 MPH. The 1/4 mile HP estimator approximates my HP @ 405 RWHP.
Your run was 7.777 @ 88.9 MPH in a car that's 150 lb heavier w/driver than my Cougar.
The Boss is a 5L N/A car making nearly 400 at the wheels with NO mods and people are complaining?

not complaining as much as pointing out that the numbers the dyno has shown so far are within 9 or 10whp of a normal GT 5.0. that said i wodner if the dyno shop has had a 11 5.0 on yet to compare to your run op
We all know there are variables in regards to putting a car up on a dyno. And yet we are still comparing and doing "what if" statements in regards to certain dyno numbers because some get this number and others get that number. Take the cars to the strip and see what numbers you put down there. I would be far more pleased seeing those numbers as I would some random dyno numbers
There was some (much?) speculation last year that the GTs are under rated
& the GT's are gaining 30 HP with the Boss intake...
Stock GTs seem to run 113 - 115 MPH in the 1/4 in 12's.
The Boss video showed 117 MPH @ 11.7.
The 1/4 mile info makes sense. The dyno numbers make me suspicious.

Dynos are TUNING TOOLS...NOT MEASURING STICKS. As was previously mentioned, there are a ton of variables that influence dyno numbers...ie dyno type(Mustang, Dynojet, Dynapack, etc...), weather(humidity, temp, barometric pressure etc...etc...). Hell, If he'd dynoed the car in a different gear, the numbers would have, very likely been different. If you take a stock GT and dyno it on the SAME dyno on the SAME day against a BOSS, then and only then, would the results be even remotely credible for comparison's sake.
The "standard" 5.0 is obviously no slouch, is underrated at 412HP, and the factory tune is watered down as delivered from Ford. There are a ton of videos on Youtube showing GT's running stupid times(mid 11's-low 12's and faster) with minimal bolt-ons and sticky tires, while spitting out in excess of 40-50 RWHP and 1+ second 1/4 mile ET improvements over stock. Bear in mind, the BOSS, however impressive on the dragstrip, was primarily developed to kick BMW(among others) *** on a road course, and that is where her "tweaks" will shine most brightly in performance comparison to a GT. While it's easy and enticing to get caught up in the horsepower hype, it is the total package, overall balance and soul of the car, that makes the BOSS 302 so desirable as an enthusiast IMHO. Just my .02...
BTW...OP...As the soul provider for a family of 5, I am vicariously living through you at the moment, am extremely jealous, and thoroughly enjoying your threads! Keep 'em comin mang! Congrats on a bad *** car, and for not being scared to enjoy her the way Ford meant for her to be enjoyed!

The average stock GT is running 110-111 in the quarter, not 113-115.
It's not just the peak power, it's where the power's made. I was at the track last weekend with an '11 5.0 that had a Steeda CAI/tune, koni adj shocks, lowering springs, Torsen diff, Boss front splitter and a Fays2 Watts link. We ran the same NT01 tires, Enkei track wheels, DTC 70/60 pads and Goodridge SS lines. The Boss ran 4 seconds faster all day even as both our lap times dropped by 4 seconds overall from the first session to the last of the day. Certainly TracKey will only improve the power curve.
