Track Key and dealers

So. I'm trying to get my track key activated. The dealer said they've only did it 1 time prior. So the question is, do I buy the "box" online on ford and take it to them or do they buy and do it all then charge me? The dealership said there's a box they use and they do something with the keys

Hopefully someone with a Boss can speak up and clarify on any differences, but in the meantime I've done the TracKey in my GT. I ordered the box online from Don Wood which had a key, air filter, and software voucher code. I then took it to a dealer who cut the key and used the activation code to load the software onto my PCM from IDS.

I suspect for a Boss you just need the voucher code and the dealer can then load the software into your PCM. It's tied to the key when the dealer does this.

with a Boss you just need a voucher and red key.

A voucher and *any* appropriate model year key. It doesn't have to be a red key, you can do it with a blank key for a regular mustang of the correct year range if you want to.

These are the instructions needed once they have the voucher (the part number for the voucher is in the first part of the instructions):

And the customer instructions: https://performanceparts.ford.com/tr...tions_V2.0.pdf

Ok thanks. I read about it but the dealer seemed confused. Another dealer I called in Kalamazoo said if my red key starts the car(it does) they can do it for $50.

A cool thing about the track key setup is that they can change your gear ratio and tire size at any time to correct the speedo. I have gone back since I had mine set up and had them adjust the tire size when I got new wheels.
