Track Key Activation Code Discount

I see that there are several dealers on Ebay selling the Track Key authorization code in the $240 range. Has anyone tried buying from one of these dealers or have any reccomendations for another dealer selling the tune code for less than the "suggested retail" of $302.

Then you have to pay the dealer X amount to actually do the programming?

Yep. Generally it takes one hour of labor for the programming.

Unless they've never done one before, as I found out the hard way...

i went to the dealer today where i normally do my business and they were going to try and install the trackey for me. turns out this is the first time i heard of the validation code and they said i have to call ford racing to get the code in order for them to activate the key and i have to pay for it. they got thru everything else on the car except for that...so no trackey to mine right now. why didnt the dealer tell me that it would cost me $302 for this activation? and why is ford charging for this? shouldnt this be a free program since we bought such and exclusive car? come on ford....help us out here...

It's just like they're selling you a part for your car except instead of the physical part, you're getting software. Just because it's not tangible doesn't mean it's not an item. That said, yeah, it would've been better if they just included this in the price and provided at the time of sale BUT there are very real political and technical reasons they didn't do that.

One being they were short on time and it was easier to provide this as a post-sale service after they started shipping vehicles, the other being CARB certification is a long, drawn out bureaucratic process, which screwed them on some of the features they could get through too.
