Thinking of selling my Boss
Thinking of selling my Boss
I've been kicking around the idea of buying a beater DD and a dedicated track car for a while now. I think i am going to try and sell my 2012 Boss, probably like 75% sure lol
The car has dynatec long tube headers, catted X, flowmaster huspower mufflers, steeda CAI, and a steeda tune on it. Will come with a SCT tuner and all original parts too.
it has torsen/recaros and the mats, but the cover was kept by the guy that bought my other boss. there is 16200-ish miles on the car, I've had it exactly a year now. the tires have a few thousand miles of street driving and 2 track days and an autocross on them. looks like 70% tread left. car is perfect, no issues at all. wheels have a few mild scratches on the stainless rim thanks to the mounting of the new tires by an idiot but nothing bad, you cant see them unless you get up really close.
it comes with carbotech rp2 front track pads with one day on them, bobcat fronts for the street, and xp8 rear pads on the car. i also have the LS brake cooling ducts on it along with brembo LCF 600+ dot 4 fluid. the car is Comp Orange, #0333. i want $38k firm. don't bother posting if you think that is too expensive, the cars have insane prices in my area and judging by how fast the another boss went at $35k it wont last long. if it does, i'll just keep it. it's ready for the track.
edit: i have a clear Texas title in hand.

Yep, I talked to a local LS owner who has got back into tracking since buying the Boss. He also wants to get a dedicated track/race car now and is thinking of selling the Boss to put this project together. I think for some it is about cost, some cars are cheaper to run. For others it may be the fear of damaging a Boss 302.
As for me, I have also got hooked on tracking but I will keep driving the Boss for that.

im not convinced that im selling for sure. i want to get into door to door racing. i don't have the space or budget to add a dedicated track car and a tow vehicle without the Boss going. i'm still tracking it in a couple weeks so we shall see. i love the car, don't have any complaints. I just want to try real racing, and i'm not going to put the boss into that setting. Boss 302- The gateway drug to a track addiction. lol

That's a good price, IMO. There's a couple used Boss 302s at two different dealers up here, and they're asking 45K for them, with 10K+ miles. If there were one for 38K around here, I'd consider trading up.
Shane......kind of a shame you're thinking of selling it. I always visioned you being in Mustang Monthly circa the year 2039, re-telling the story of how you bought #001, sold it and bought #333........which you'd still have, all those years later.
Like it or not, you're a little bit of Mustang history

Rofl! I'm in the same boat as you. My z4m was my gateway drug and then my boss was my O.D.
Only I got the boss bc I figured that it was cheaper to run and maintain, which was a correct assumption for the streets but not the track.
I figure my tires last me 3 hpde events at most and the brakes about 5. The extra weight and power of this car really goes through that rubber.
I just prepurchased 10 track days for this year and my estimated tire brake costs alone is going to be 7k for this year. Looks like I'm going to need at least 10k to burn through To finish this season. Miata or even an s2k could easily cut that cost in half or more bc of the smaller wheels, light weight and they're known to go 10 track days on the same rubber. I could only fathom what the zl1 running costs would come out to on the track.
Luckily I have 2 tow vehicles to choose from so I may just keep the boss and add a spec miata, but my wife asks me what's the boss for then? I simply have no answer for that since I've only driven it for track days. "shrug"

Sure, I can see that for a front running car, but w2w isnt any more expensive per weekend than DEs in my experience. In fact, its actually a bit cheaper than the DEs because I am usually running 2 sessions per day (double race weekend - 1 qual/1 race per day) instead of 4 sessions like I was with the DEs. My stuff is lasting twice as long, but honestly I am just as worn out after 2 sessions of wheel to wheel than I was after 4 sessions of DEs, just because of the intensity of it.
I'm racing a Super Touring Lite Miata with SCCA. I go through about $50 in fuel a day, the pads and rotors should last pretty much the entire season for me (6 weekends), rotors are definitely good for the season, the tires I'm running will last me the season as well. Pads are $250, rotors are $100, and tires are $600. Again, my car isnt built to be a front running car, I'm not throwing on brand new Hoosier R6's every weekend, I'm just out there to have fun and do the best with what I've got in this budget race car.
