Sturgis Mustang Rally - Saleen took pics of my Boss
Just got back from the 5th Sturgis Mustang Rally.
The Boss class was lined up for the Show and Shine down the street from Steve Saleen's display, including his '07 Saleen Parnelli Jones on display. He walked down to the LS next to me and I, and asked if we'd like to move our Boss's next to his so his photographer could take pics. Well, of course! He wants pics for his online newsletter.
Steve is on the right edge of the pic.

Here's some pics of the lineup on main street - 5 blocks and 3 side streets full of Mustangs!

And of course, here's a little Boss heritage.
Scott, this one's for you.

And a Sunday morning drive through Spearfish Canyon - didn't drive hard--cost of failure is severe!

And, just had to take this pic.

Also put the Boss on the dyno:
362 hp, 316 torque.
Conditions: 88 deg F, and Sturgis is about 3,930 feet elevation. Should have done it early in the morning when cooler.
Miller Motorsports Park was there, and had a nice talk with Bryan.
Overall, a fun weekend. If you can make a Sturgis SD road trip fit your plans, it will be Labor Day weekend 2012.

Cool. Is Spearhead Canyon in Custer State Park? I drove through there before and it's beautiful. I met Bryan last week and besides being a great guy he has an amazing knowledge of Fords and car racing history.
Rick,
Spearfish Canyon is US 14A going south of Spearfish. As you can see from the shear wall, its pretty rugged country. Custer State Park is quite a ways south. Lots of twisties and cut backs from Mt Rushmore on the way to Custer. Not Rocky Mountains, but some good terrain.
MMP had 3 cars there. They drove the autocross, giving free rides. The autocross was in a small parking lot so short and lots of turns forcing a slow course. I drove it in 51 seconds. The winner was 44 something. The Ford Racing Parts guy said my run was so smooth it looked slower than my time. Hey, the Boss is designed for twisting and turning.
The MMP team had a lot of fun sliding around the turns, hitting cones (and dragging them to the finish). They finally taped a cone to the roof of one of the cars for a good laugh by everyone.
An LS from ND was there and she made the final 4. The first day she drove it in 45 seconds. She has less than 800 miles on the LS. Not her first time to the rodeo. She also took out a GT500 on the 1/8 mile strip.

Great pics Wayne. Looks like a great time! I felt bad talking with Bryan at MMP that he was heading out to the rally and I was skipping it (in my home state!) I explained to him that the two tracks I drive to most often are 5 hours (280 miles) away and Sturgis is 400 miles! Big states out here
Anyway between MMP last weekend, MPH two days before MMP and BIR this Thurs-Sun I figured I needed a break. Thanks for sharing!

A couple more pics.
After the Show and Shine, we all went back to the Sturgis Thunderdome parking lot and lined up for the Main Street parade. Police had the highway blocked off for us, and we burned out as we turned onto the highway - yep, only in Sturgis SD can we do that in front of a police road block.
Both photos taken from the same spot, looking left and right. More Mustangs in front of me not in either photo. I counted 5 rows.
Yep, lots of ponies in that lineup.
