What the heck is that for? A tube from the inlet to the firewall. What?

Removed my sound pipe

I removed my sound pipe today, but not without finding a surprise. On upon removing the sound pipe from the firewall, I found a wire that runs right into the end of the sound pipe through the firewall. Needless to say, I had to do some modification so not to mess with this wire, which I had no idea what it was for. I chose to use the plug, but just in case you might prefer the grommet, here are some pics how I did, or you might deal with it.

I received mine today and installed it. Now I can see the dip stick! I did use the original clamp just for looks. Really cleaned up that side of the engine bay.

11Shelby GT500 asked:

Sound tubes are apparently not new..BMW uses them too. It is supposed to "enhance" your driving experience, by sending induction sound into the passenger compartment. Can you imagine the engineering money that went into this?

Wire??? Didn't have any wires running in mine. Perhaps a GT only item?

No way. Dealer or other shop installed something in the car shown. This is NOT OEM.

Do you have a temp sensor coming off your rear view mirror by chance?

Don't Know and of course nobody else has this wire, only me. All I know is that it runs along side the firewall toward the battery.

I noticed I have it too when I was disconnecting my battery before removing my seats for the roll bar. I didn't take the time to follow it for sure but assumed it was running to the temp sensor on my Homelink mirror. I'll verify that tomorrow.

I have two openers at home and one at the office so I've added the Homelink mirror to my GT500, wife's convertible and the Boss. I just had the dealer order the mirror when I ordered the Boss and they installed it before I even took delivery. . Since mine was built within 3 weeks of the start of production, there wasn't much info available on the cars yet. As it turned out I didn't need temp since the Boss has it. My other two didn't.

The money Ford spent on that piece of crap useless sound tube they could have used elsewhere to improve something that needed improvement.
