Heat up with a hair dryer on the hottest setting & use a strap wrench.
Not gonna get off with your bare hands.

Same hear... strap wrench and hand. Ford really did not want that to come off I guess. I thought I was going to break the shifter but at the last moment it broke free.

Strap wrench w/o heat here. Requires some force.

I used a strap wrench.....took a pretty fair amount of torque....more than I had envisioned.

Sort of on the same topic...

How about putting it back on? When I bought mine used, it already had the MGW shifter in it but with the Boss shift **** mounted. The shift **** snugs up facing roughly 10-deg from dead ahead. It'll remain at 0-deg unless I apply any to a little clockwise rotation... any idea how to make it sit perfectly straight while torqued down? OR! is that normal and I need to grab a strap wrench and really wrench down the other 350-deg?

It took a couple of trys, but I got mine off by hand. I don't need no stinkin' strap wrench.

Still can't open a jar of pickles though.

The MGW shift **** shaft is threaded into the upper shifter body. Loosen the jamb nut holding the shaft and adjust as needed.

Remove the console, simply pulls up, disconnect the wire connector and set aside. Loosen nut and adjust. Reassemble in opposite order.

Takes about 5 minutes once you get used to the process.

You won't want to try over tightening another 350 degrees, you will end up stripping threads or maybe crack the ball. I have to do this also, adjust the jam nut on the MGW after taking my console off a few times for the stereo install.
