Same hear... strap wrench and hand. Ford really did not want that to come off I guess. I thought I was going to break the shifter but at the last moment it broke free.
Sort of on the same topic...
How about putting it back on? When I bought mine used, it already had the MGW shifter in it but with the Boss shift **** mounted. The shift **** snugs up facing roughly 10-deg from dead ahead. It'll remain at 0-deg unless I apply any to a little clockwise rotation... any idea how to make it sit perfectly straight while torqued down? OR! is that normal and I need to grab a strap wrench and really wrench down the other 350-deg?

Remove the console, simply pulls up, disconnect the wire connector and set aside. Loosen nut and adjust. Reassemble in opposite order.
Takes about 5 minutes once you get used to the process.

The MGW shift **** shaft is threaded into the upper shifter body. Loosen the jamb nut holding the shaft and adjust as needed.

Takes about 5 minutes once you get seed to the process.

Congratulations! Pics after install.

You won't want to try over tightening another 350 degrees, you will end up stripping threads or maybe crack the ball. I have to do this also, adjust the jam nut on the MGW after taking my console off a few times for the stereo install.
