Radar Detector for Boss 302
Radar Detector for Boss 302
Hi Guys,
I'm new her and could use some experienced advice on radar detectors.
My Boss is one week old now and rising quickly on my list of add-on's is a real good radar detector. What's the best out there for front & rear scan, and should I be permanently mounting one on, or just put one on the dash? I'm leaning to not cluttering the dash beyond the GPS, which doubles as a speedometer converter.
Cheers,

Here the OSP's radar is always on - even coming at you. I don't know if its radar or maybe laser now?

Subscribed to this thread. Finding it hard to stay within legal limits having 400+ HP after so many years driving ricemobiles.
yes, it was about $40 for a 3 year subscription and they email you when they update. they tell you which states they have updated, so you know when to hook up the detector again. it does laser, KA KU X and if they pop up a new radar or speed cam you can mark it yourself
Valentine 1 IMO Stands head & shoulders above with the ability to both count & give you the direction of signals. That way you know if there is a cop running behind you and your picking up his signal you can then detect another that may be sitting beside the road ahead or coming towards you. These functions have saved my butt a number of times and I personally wouldn't want to roll with out them.... my 2 cents......

I need to do something too. I was getting Ice Cream the other night and I had the urge to let her loose in a 45 MPH area after the ice cream shop. Around the courner was a state police car, sitting. I did not do what I wanted, lucky I guess. The wife will say slow down. I can't.
Valentine 1 and laser jammers are a must! You can mount the laser jammers in the grill so when they shoot you, it will jam their gun. Also the Valentine 1 lets you know which direction the radar is coming from.
You can always hard wire the valentine 1. You want to keep the detector discreet in the car so you are not subjet for a break in.

Look up Radar Roy's website for reviews on laser jammers. The Escort one doesn't get great reviews. Also, there is substance called VEIL that is supposed to act as a laser absorbing coating that can be put on headlight covers that reduces the effective range of laser. I don't have any experience with any of these products, but it's all out there to review on line.
I use the Valentine-1 radar detector. I have used the V-1 for many years and if I were to buy another unit I'd buy another V-1. It does not have the GPS function, which is unfortunate I think, but for me the directional indicators offered on the V-1 more than make up for that. Also, Valentine will update your device as newer frequencies come out so it is less likely to become obsolete.

Valentine or Escort. They are both top of the line detectors. If you want built in, Escort is the only player in the game that I am aware of. Escort also is the most innovative with new products like GPS and they even have a Nav/Radar detector unit out now. V1 has the directional arrows which a lot of people love. Escort is sleeker but I think V! is more rugged. I've never owned a V1 but I really like my Escort. One of the things I really like is the ability to turn on or off any of the bands. Around here, the police no longer use X band so I turn it off and don't have to be bothered with alerts around shopping centers and airports from the security systems and automatic doors. V1 may do this also but I'm not sure.
