Questionable 1/4 mile times

As I posted this past weekend, I was heading to the 1/4 mile track Sunday night and was skeptical about the timing system of our new track. See what you guys think.

1.72 60 ft.
12.203 @ 116.70 mph

I noticed a few other racers stating that their times looked a little slow. I strongly agreed. I checked all my old time slips from other vehicles I have raced over the years and everytime I hooked well, which I did, and I crossed the traps at 116-117 mph, it always equalled to around 11.3-11.6 e.t. Anybody else agree or disagree?

BTW I got several runs in and the times were all over the place from 000.000 to a 38.96 @ 44 mph. Needless to say, something is goofy with the timing system setup.

You really expected to see an 11.3?
What mods do you have? 12.20 doesn't sound that bad unless it's blown.

12.2 is excellent, but with your mods and tire setup I would have expected 11.7 to 12.0

I ran a 12.29 @ 115 w/ a 1.7 60' last week. Temps in the mid 50's. I was on 275/17 MT ET street drag radials. Bone stock, no mods other than the tires. This was with the Boss 302 and at 15psi in the tires.

Et does seem slow for your trap and 60'. What do you mean your times were all over? The timing was off or your driving was off?

The timing system was all over the place, on one run they had me at 38.42 e.t. A few other racers there that night commented they were seeing about a half second difference to what they usually run, some as only a few weeks earlier at another track. Needless to say I was expecting mid 11's. I have owned several Vettes, GTO and just driven some of my customer's cars down the 1/4 mile and usually that speed nets me mid 11's just wanted to see what others thought. I spoke to the track officials and acknowledged a recurring theme in complaints about the timing system. It is brand new and admitted to not getting any training. They will be working on that and verify proper setup with tech support. Hopefully we can get a good measuring stick soon enough.

in that case, I believe you answered your own question. I wouldn't question a 11.5-9 @116.8 and a 1.72 60'

what was your 1/8 trap/time?

on a side note my best in my last car(z4m) was 12.00 @ 120 w/ 1.98 60'

Dunno man. That's not a bad ET. Mph sometimes reflects on ET but not always. I know 11sec cars and 14sec cars running that mph. What was your 60ft times?

There was no 1/8 mile time measurement either. As far as the trap speed I have always noticed it higher when you have a bad 60' due to wheelspin. When you have a good hook/launch it is a good measuring stick and trap speed usually matches e.t., but only with a good 60 ft. My 60 was a 1.72

What gear did you finish in? What rpm did you shift out?

shift out? I finished in 4th, shifting at 7500, launched at 5000. I didn't ck what rpm I was at crossing. I forgot to mention, all my passes were against a fellow boss. He had drag radials and track key with the launch control leaving at 4500. The best he got was a 13.2

Just trying to figure out your pass. Sometimes shifting at red line is not the best way to a better ET. I have to shift out earlier to get all of 4th the way my car is set up. My ET is higher shifting at red line. You may want to consider using some of 5th. Torque curve and gearing will help you figure shift points.

True, I'll wait for the timing system to be corrected to attempt various shift strategies. Thanks.

Motortrend has a stock BOSS 1/4 doing 12.3 seconds @ 115.8 MPH

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...test_data.html

You crossed doing around 1 MPH faster shaving around 1/10th off.

There was a thread either here or on another BOSS forum where Henessy blew and engine to add another 200 or so horsepower. It only wound up adding a few 10ths (at most) to the 1/4 mile times.

Yes, they ran that cause of the excessive wheelspin on take off due to stock tires. That is what I am talking about. All the times I ran against a stock boss with track key and drag radials. I was beating him by about 6 car lengths!! I drive my buddy's stock boss and it is night and day to mine. Once I did the headers the car really woke up. After I got the tune it went ape sh$t!! Shifting into second gear at wot was scary stuff it would wheelspin like crazy during upshifts. That's why I got the slicks and now it just pulls like a train all the way up to redline. It's definately 11's just don't know how deep.

If the other boss was running correctly what was his trap? And better yet your da for the day? From my experience, More wheelspin only equates to a better trap when the car doesn't have traction issues(under powered) Oddly when my 60' came down my trap went up, bc it had more length to put the power down.

I ran my boss w/500 mi all stock in the 1/8th 8.3 @ 91 w/ a 2.1 60'

It looks like correct numbers to me.
I ran this fall in about 60 degree weather on stock tires with no mods except Roush axle backs. I posted my slips here but had a

1.92 60ft
8.01 1/8th
12.27 1/4 @116

for what its worth....

Don't see anything wrong with those numbers...
