Preparations for Superfest at VIR

Fellow Enthusiasts,

Here's #0114 getting ready to run at VIR this weekend. As you can and can't see she has:
- her new shoes (FRPP Boss 302S rims with Pirelli Pzero Corsa tires)
- brake cooling ducts and hoses
- transmission cooling scoop
- Brembo LCF 600 brake fluid
- brake pad and rotors burned in
- rear brake dust shields removed
- clear bra installed
- fresh oil change

Is there anything else I'm missing? TIA for the tips.

Kevin

Weight reduction like remove rear seat, passenger seats, empty the trunk.
Air up the front tires to 40 psi, rear 36 psi.
Helmet and fire extinguisher.
GoPro camera.
Track insurance.

Thanks for the reply. I'll be keeping the seats for this event - I've signed up to take my boys on the track for parade laps in the middle of the day.
- Tire pressure: check, also to coincide with the 41psi recommended in the owner's supplement
- Helmet and extinguisher: check, already have
- GoPro: check, they'll be available for rental at the track
- Track insurance: check, bought HPDE specific insurance for this event

Thanks for the help!

My understanding is that you'll be letting air out after a few warmup laps if you start with the OEM pressures, so airing up to 41psi may be unnecessary.

Nice Kevin, lookin good.

I started at 37 cold all around on my track day and ended up let air out of all four at different rates after the first run.

What did you pay for the tire rim setup? PM me if you like ...

Yes, and VIR can get blistering hot too! Monitor the conditions and get some at track advice for your starting cold temps.

with a 3200lb car I was starting my R6's/NT01/R888's around 30psi and easily getting them into the 40+psi range - There is some advice, bring a pressure gauge and always check prior and post lapping (I kept logs for ambient temps and different tracks).

Other than the tires my first track day setup will be like yours although I'm still debating about adding SS brake lines. I'll also have window tint so I don't have to look at upset Z06 owners as I pass them.

Scott, here's a link for one of the best prices on those rims

I paid around $3K for rims (Late Model Restoration), tires (Tire Rack, heat cycled), mounting and balancing. I know there are cheaper wheel sets out there, but I decided to follow in the footsteps of Ford engineering for this one.

Yes, I meant 41psi hot. The weather in Danville is forecasted to be in the low 90's this weekend. I'll keep a close eye on the tire pressure and check them after each run.

Thanks guys, keep it coming.

Kevin-
Beautiful looking rims on your street boss! Looks fantastic.

I have opted for these rims as well to try to defuse some of the "edgeness" Ford has painted onto the LS.

Enjoy, I went to VIR last year for my first time with the SCMC, and was very impressed with the track and facility.

I debated whether to go to the Superfest at VIR this weekend too, but decided to go to Watkins Glen with Phoenix CMR group. I'll be taking the R.

Hopefully SCMC will be having a fall event at VIR, and I can take the Laguna Seca. (if it's in by then )

Keep an eye on your temp gauge. Buy an extra radiator cap. Good spare part to keep for track days. They're one time use so if you do happen to pop it, it won't seal again. $8.70 from your dealer.

meanmud - Thanks for the complement on the driveway.

LQQK - I owe you some pics of the clearbra. I ran out of time before I had to head out the door. I had it done by a local vendor of the 3M stuff.

Cloud9 - Thanks for the tip on the engine coolant cap. I picked one up on the way to the track.

This car is absolutely amazing. I did 3 30-minute runs today (I'm scheduled for 3 more tomorrow). I never wish I had more of anything, with the exception of track time. The suspension, the tire grip, the power and torque from the engine, the brakes, the seat bolstering, everything worked brilliantly and there's nothing else I plan on improving on - except for the driver.

It's a great car guys - we're very fortunate Ford made it.

Kevin

Sounds like you are having a blast VIR looks like a fun track. My only regret is not tracking other cars before to truly appreciate what they have build for us

Make sure you tell some of the FORD employees that are going to be there, I'm sure they would appreciate it..
