Picked up Boss #510 Saturday
Picked up Boss #510 Saturday!
Man, this car is awesome! Can’t wait to get on the track at Hastings NE.
Seeing a lot of you wait months for your Boss to show up, I feel like I cheated the system.
I decided a few weeks ago I wanted a Boss (rather than a GT and modding it for track use), and spent some time trying to find a dealer willing to sell a black LS at MSRP, but they all wanted $5,000-20,000 above. One in TX was sold at MSRP and the lucky owner was picking it up the day after I called. So it can be done.
I decided on race red (all of my cars have been red). Three calls later, jackpot—race red with black stripes and both options in OK. Interstate on the way home isn’t the best method for break-in, but I shifted between 5 & 6, took extra exits/onramps, dropped back from traffic and then accelerated, etc.
Only problem is the molding strip between the roof and drivers door frame has the rear plastic clip loose, so that needs to be fixed.
Planned mods:
190+ holes in the fake fog lights for improved cooling
Carbotech XP10/XP8 brake pads
ATE Superblue
Brake cooling kit
Transmission cooling scoop
Turkey baster on rear axle
Aeroforce gauge
Caster/camber plates
Maybe Enkei PF01 and new tires for track use
Here’s a pic minutes before driving out the dealer’s door.

If my car ever arrives there will be at least two Race Red/Black Boss Mustangs in South Dakota. I found a dealer (last March) in Minnesota with a third quarter allocation and ordered it. I guess I should have extended my search out a few more states! You did cheat a little by not having to wait months but hey, you have the car at home and all I have is a lousy receipt for a $1,000 down payment.
Enjoy and perhaps one day our paths will cross out here in the boondocks. You will be able to recognize me by the wide grin and the SD wave.

Gary,
Mine will only be in Sioux Falls when Ford is adding toys to it, which won't be much. Or when I'm on the way to the track!
Yep, up here we have a good looking girl behind every tree. . .
SoDakMac, maybe we can go to a car show some day--twins on display.
First oil change today at 850 miles. $105. Ouch. Since the dealer has never seen a Boss, I asked them to be carefull to not put the lift pad on the side exhaust. They ended up using a drive-on lift. Good call.
And they ordered the new roof edge molding and clips--can't buy just the $2 clip. Oh well, its warrenty work, so Ford's loss.

Yeah, WHEN I get the car we will have to park the identical twins (although by that time you will have a bunch of track mods done to yours) side by side at one of the local get together events. I really need another Mustang guy to offset all those GM fans that show up to give me grief. Thanks for the tip regarding the lift pads and the side exhaust since I will be using the same dealer for my first oil change – hopefully before the roads get icy! Also – I sure hope that I do not end up getting misguidedly blamed for some guy smoking up and down I-29 in a Race Red Boss Mustang between Brookings and White SD.

No problem racing down I-29 -- I'm obedient and drive 80 so I'll let them blame you. But I generally hit 90 in 3rd on the entrance ramp. Its just so smooth and easy, and I'm not even at WOT. Maybe I'll have to take your tar road once in a while just to create a diversion.
Too bad your Boss won't be here for the Aug 13 Camaro Days in Brookings. I plan to go and park the Boss on the edge of the park, then go look at their cars. By then I should also have my selection of YellowBoss's side plates in and my selection made. Won't be obnoxious, but will make sure the Red Boss is there too.
