one step closer

found a dealer that says they can order me a LS but wont be able to until early summer. but will talk to the rep to what the earliest they can order is.
they want a 10% deposit though is that normal? not complaining just curious as the price would be MSRP.

10% may be a little high for a deposit but for a MSRP LS it should not hold you back. I would take it.

I thought it sounded high but the price is right. When do you normally make a deposit? The day of the order?

So they want to hold $5000 of your money for at least six months. I would ask them what interest rate they are paying. There is no reason for them to really even need a deposit but I would think $500 to $1000 would be more realistic.

I paid a 10% deposit the day I placed my order. I figured it's that much smaller of a check I have to write when it's delivered.

If you haven't dealt with them a number of times, see if they will give you a refundable deposit, whatever amount, in writing. Hopefully the MSRP will be in writing as well.

Considering money market rates are about 30 basis points right now, you're really not giving up much. If you can get an LS at MSRP, you're getting a very good deal this early in the game. I would take it, but get the deal in writing. A legally binding contract requires each party give consideration. Considering you are giving them $5k down, you've met that and they would lose if they tried to back out on your deal if ADMs start being the norm. You can ask for a refundable deposit, but in essence I think you are giving them an out. If you can back out on the deal, why couldn't they?

**I'm not an attorney, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night ** I have taken several business law classes in the past but it might be worth having an attorney review your deal.

I left mine the moment of the order. I assume that would be the case. Funny thing is I walked into the dealer a month ealier and bought a F150. Signed the papers and they had the truck delivered from 300 miles away and I did not leave a penny on deposit. Guess they trusted me more before I actually became a customer.

Exactly, 5000 in the bank for 5 months and you may be able to buy a cup of coffee with the interest. I left 2K on my credit card, with cash back I will make more than the interest on that money

Vito, like anything else in life, it comes down to what it is worth to you. You can't go wrong at this point with a sticker deal, all the rest of the details really don't matter.

thanks everyone all solid posts/advice. this is definitely worth it to me, the only other nagging item is initially saying they can't order it until early summer but also said they are calling the rep Monday to see when the earliest is they can order.

Well with the production delay at 4 weeks and possibly counting, you might not get it much later than the first quarter cars

My dealer wanted a $5K deposit which I thought was very steep. But like cloud9 stated my MM account isn't paying anything. My American Express card pays 2% cash back so I made money on the deal.

Perry, good luck with your purchase.

still notsure maybe I'm over thinking this but this is the actual response.

"Good morning Perry this is Garrett Keefe from Dick Brantmeier Ford in Sheboygan, I can get you a 2012 Ford Mustang with the Boss 302 501A Laguna Seca package and the 97B Boss Accessory Package for $48,465 + tax. I think we can start ordering those by early summer"

That's MSRP with the mats/car cover accessory package. I'd take it if you want an LS.
