Oil Change. Where to buy?

I was wondering where some of you are buying your Motorcraft 5w-50 Oil and Oil Filter from? My local dealer has it but i dont think they have the Ford racing Filter that i was looking for. They say they will do the Oil change for $90 is that a good price? I would rather do it my self to make sure its done right with the right oil.

My local dealer did it for $80. That's about what it would cost to do it yourself so why bother doing it yourself? $90 seems very reasonable IMO.

So which filter is now recommended? A NAPA filter or are you suggesting SoCalBoss302 purchase his oil and filter at NAPA?

I agree with Rick and think $80-90 is probably reasonable at Ford. I still prefer to do it myself just cause I have done this with all my vehicles. And plan on using Motorcraft parts.

I've heard horror stories ranging from not enough oil put back in to stripped out drain plug bolts! The price is right though.

Have fun Sunday!

NAPA gold = WIX, which is an excellent filter.

Related Q: Does the Boss use the same filter as the regular 5.0?

Put me in the camp of preferring to do it myself. I would love to have a local dealer I could trust with my cars, but unfortunately the 2 closest to me have proven otherwise.

The real reason I'm posting however is to mention, if you do decide to use the Ford dealership, make sure you sign up for the owner rewards program. Effectively you get 5% back and every 5th oil change is free. Rules might be different for larger engines, but that was the case for a 4-banger I own. Regardless, check it out.

Not for me guys.
Not the right pedigree.

I'll stick with the Ford design team recommendations:
Motorcraft 5W-50 full synthetic oil (WSS-M2C931-B)
Motorcraft FL-500S filter

(And I do not mean to open pandora's box here as oil threads always turn into. Every owner is free to choose any other combination they care to use. I just prefer to use the OE recommended fluids and not worry any more about suitability or equivalency issues.)

Answering my own question (after some research):

Yes, same filter as the 5.0 Mustang, as well as the V6. F150 also uses it plus a bunch of other cars so availability is no problem.

WIX 57502.
Motorcraft FL500s.

I'm a big fan of Mobil 1 and use it in every other car.... but no Mobil 1 (in the US) in a 5w-50 so I would NOT recommend it for the Boss.

So who besides Motorcraft makes 5/50 weight oil? Also, does it have to be 5/50. I have yet to see other brands in 5/50 at local auto stores. And whats so special about 5/50 oil?? I was planing on using Mobil 1. Is there anything (bad) that I should know about Mobil 1 before I change my oil.

It's available but might need to be ordered. A local independent auto parts store told me they can get it for about $8 qt. Redline makes a 5W50 and so does Castrol plus a couple of others. Amsoil will tell you to use the 10W40 but I'd stick with 5W50 while your car is under warranty.

Actually, it is available in 5w50 here in the US. The Boss 302R teams use it in their motors. Note picture #11. Cases of Mobil 1 5w50.

Google shopping only lists one source for Mobil 1 5w50:

$8.45/qt. How much is it from Ford?

Probably gonna be a little more expensive ordering from the dealer but you could try. I see you live in Plano, I'd go to Bob Tomes Ford in McKinney. Hands down best customer service I've ever seen at a dealership.
