OE Auto Limits, 2011 Mustang

For those who like to casually remove factory imposed limits, this video is a subtle reminder that maybe (just maybe) the automotive engineers put these limits in place for some important reasons. And a reason you may not want to explore this limit extension yourself. I’m thinking here about tuners removing vehicle speed limits, engine rpm limits, possible temperature limits and others.

Perhaps this particular Mustang driveline failure is not applicable to our Boss vehicles as hopefully the designers anticipated many would be operating in the upper reaches of performance. But it is a sobering thought as to having a reason or justification for exploring that territory of “extra” performance which the factory has initially tried to limit access. You become your own test pilot and the outcome may or may not be successful or to your liking.

Enjoy…

Post about a V6 in the Boss section. Wow.

A repost at that too!

Thanks for you're pointing out the repost. And I realize this happened to be a V6 Mustang application.

My intent was just to bring attention to altering limits without knowing what is beyond that limit. Which I believe has application and merit in our Boss Forum. In this particular event the results were catastrophic and could have severely injured the driver.

Ah ha, I know that avatar picture PO thats one of the last SR-71 powerplants in afterburn using up some of the last fuel for the plane, but I digress.

The article perrty much sums up why the driveshaft failed and thats one of the reasons the 2013 GT500 is equipped with its CF driveshaft (not so much to save weight).

I doubt that Ford slacked on quality parts for the GT, much less the Boss like they could have with the V6. over 90% of V6 Mustang owners don't drive fast, they just buy it for the looks. And most of the V8 owners actually drive the car like its meant to be driven, and knowing this Ford uses quality products and makes sure that they withstand the use.

I have no doubt in my mind that my car will do fine past the speed limiter.

Yep, that can happen to the two-pieces...I have heard the GT ones on the 05-09 cars like to let go above 160mph. Not sure if anything has changed for the 11+ year (other than the overall length, of course).

Holy Cr@p!

Maybe it's a good idea to put on that driveshaft safety loop!
