MP001 SBY Laguna Seca
Hello everyone! I was wondering to get a bit of help regarding this specific SBY Laguna Seca. When it was picked up, we quickly noticed it was labeled MP 001 on the intake manifold plate. My understanding is that MP stands for Manufacturer Prototype... were these the first of the three (LS, VP and MP) types made? Would that possibly make this the first 2013 Laguna Seca made? It was purchased directly from Ford, has spent a good portion of it's life near/on Laguna Seca and is in pristine condition. It's quite a joy to have... cant wait for the weather to warm up and keep dry so it can actually be driven. Thanks for any help you guys may have.

I also noticed that Ford gave Car and Driver MP 002 to test and photograph.
I'm thinking MP 001 may have had the same service to Ford? Could it possibly be the photographed SBY Laguna Seca that's in each magazine, show etc etc?
Just a thought...

Verrry interesting. You could be sittin on a future gold mine right there! If it were me though id drive it like the engineerʻs designed it to. Hard. Or you could keep the miles low, wait 10-15 years and fetch a nice heap of money from a big auction like barrett-jackson

Appreciate the response guys - it'll definitely be driven when it warms up!
I'm running off assumptions with the plate right now, would just like to confirm some things. Let me know if you come up with something.

I'd encourage you to research MP as "Mustang Prototypes." as well as "manufacturer prototypes." from my understanding regular Boss 302 Mustangs have a number such as 0001. Laguna's will have LS 0001, but the prototypes that Ford uses to test, tune, photograph and beat up have numbers like MP 0001. This was the case in the 1970's.
Remarkably, 98 percent of prototype Bosses were to be destroyed because they were usually fried, damaged in track use, or beat to hell. I wouldn't advertise that you have it to Ford. Instead, do a bit of leg work regarding just how many prototypes were released.
You didn't hear this from me. Lol

I remember a story about a guy that bought a 2012 Boss at a dealer realized he had 0001. I think he sold it about 2 months later for $15K more than he paid for it.

MP cars are given to the Media Press and are the one's tested by the magazines and newspapers. Most of the MP cars I'm told are driven very hard and not always well treated. Not saying yours has this history, but MP cars as a whole are used that way.
The PP cars can be factory test cars or show cars and very rare to be released, the TT cars are tooling test cars that are not released. From what PTROCKS has found, it looks like you have the 1 of 3 Media Press cars made for the 13 Laguna Seca . MP cars are not that uncommon, but very cool to have a 001 on the plate !
PTROCKS has most all info on BOSS production cars, he's the one to give you all the info you need.
12 2012 PPs
8 Bosses (2 released for sale thus far)
4 LSes (2 released for sale)
43 2012 MPs
30 Bosses (22 released this far)
13 LSes (9 released for sale, not including the Barrett Jackson car)
There are also 12 2012 Tooling Test prototypes, none have been offered for sale, though some are at Miller for Track Attack
22 2013 PPs
14 Bosses (0 released)
8 LSes (0 released)
15 2013 MPs
12 Bosses (11 released thus far)
3 LSes (all 3 released)
Hope this helps.

As I have found so far, it is easily the most documented/photographed SBY 2013 Laguna Seca thus far.
My main question is timeline of production. Which version has '001' first? MP, VP or LS?
Thanks for the input, keep it coming!

I would think MP cars were the first to be released, because media companies usually try doing their tests a lil early to show everyone what the car is capable of before they start writing checks. Thats just me thinkin out loud tho

PP cars are built before MP cars, its easy to see by the build sticker on the door. I think the MP cars are produced roughly the same time as the regular run of BOSS, but the numbering helps remove the cars from the production run of 750. So they will be a MP 001 and a LS 001, same car in every way.
There are several people on this forum that can give you very detailed info on your car. I was lucky to get all the info on my PP car, its quite interesting to see where the car went and how/when it was built.
Whats your car's VIN ?

I think if you search 2013 laguna seca video's your sure to find your car being 'tested' by several different publications.

Where it says "TAG 037D540" That can be tracked to who got the car originally. Mine was classified as Y - Evaluation
Y=evaluation
T=test
L=management lease
W=prototype
C=commercial
F=fixed asset
D=marketing

As I understand on the stickers if its regular production, there won't be any "TAG" listed.
We both have very special cars in my opinion. If you can say 1 of 3, or 1 of 2 released, thats pretty cool !

This is the same for every model for every year, not just certain years. This is the order they are built. All stages are small runs of each, less than 250 cars.
TT - Tooling Trial
PP - Pilot Production
MP1 - Mass Production 1
MP2 - Mass Production 2
Not Mustang Production, Marketing Production, or Media Press.
