Mobil1 5W-50 on sale: $5.79

Went by my local NAPA and found they had a sale on Mobil1. I emptied them out on 5W-50 for $5.79/qt. Regular price is $8.79.

Earlier threads mentioned that Modil 1 5W-50 did not meet Fords spec for motor oil. Can anyone confirm/deny this??

Thanks

It does not. I would run it without fear, though many will disagree with me. There are a lot of Motorcraft only guys on here. I am not one of them. Motorcraft 5w50 is the only readily available oil that meets Fords Spec.

True story...couple of guys I knew of on the forums with Shelby's had VOA testing done on Motorcraft and Redline 5w50. The Motorcraft tested lower than the 600 ppm of phosphorus minimum in the Ford B-spec, while the Redline exceeded the top-end spec of 800 ppm. So the Redline didn't "meet" Ford's B-spec (it exceeded it in this one area), but the Motorcraft 5w50 didn't meet Ford's B-spec, either :-)

Bottom line is, both Redline and Mobil1 have been proven in testing to wear better, with less shear, than Motorcraft. No dogma, no opinion, just lab analysis. B-spec aside (which Motorcraft itself sometimes won't meet in testing), run your Mobil and trust the science. Personally, I live really, really close to Pegasus Racing, and as such I can get Redline easily and relatively cheaply, so that's what I do. But I would be fine with Mobil as well if I had a local, cheap source.

And just in case your local NAPA says, "Mobil 1 doesn’t make 5W-50".....

Here's the part number.

Motor Oil - Mobil - 1 Qt, Synthetic; 5W50
Part Number: MOB 98HF24

Thanks for the heads-up! Just ordered 3 cases (18 quarts). Been using Motorcraft @ $7.95 a quart. Used to use Mobil1 in my 06 GT and never had an issue.

That’s a great price on M1. If I was doing the oil change I’d buy the least expensive of Motorcraft, M1 or Redline as I’ll be replacing it way ahead of the recommendations. For me it’s more time and cost effective to have my dealer change the oil and with their monthly coupon it’s either $80 or $85.

I wish my dealer only charged $40.

Seriously? Do you use 5/50 or 5/20. Either way that's a killer deal considering the filter costs $10. That's less than $4 a qt not to mention the labor. My dealer charges 120

what a deal!

I just ordered/reserved 18 qts (3 cases) online for pickup at my local NAPA Autoparts store. They'll even discount the order another 10% just for showing them my AAA card, so my total with tax will be just under $100, plus I get a free NAPA basketball for having a purchase greater than $25. Thanks OP!

Okay, here's what I do. First, my dealer is a ford advantage program taker. They throw 10.00 in there every so often to get me to get service done. I had like 3.00 and some change in there from the last oil change. Total of about 14.00 in the advantage program. They always have a 10.00 rebate program pop every other month, so I got that. Total now is 25.00 of discount. Using a coupon for "the works" service at 24.95 that's good for up to 5 quarts of synthetic blend. Synthetic blend prices for like 5.00 to 6.00 and the full synthetic lists about 8.00 or so I pay the difference between the blend and the full for the 5 quarts which is about 10.00 or so and full price for the other remaining 3 to top it off which is about 8 x 3 = 24.00 plus the 10.00 for about 34.00 or so plus tax and it was around 40.00. There you go

UGG I feel ripped.. I just picked up my 3 cases that i reserved and i did not get a basketball !! not to mention I dont have AAA so no 10% discount either.

Oh well, I paid 112 after tax, much better than the 100 I just paid to K-MansParts.com for 10 qts of motorcraft and a filter. almost 2 for the price of 1!!

For those who are considering redline, IMHO, I think redlines 5w50 is to thick for these cars outside of a pure racetrack oil. It is closer to a 60wt and it does not shear at all. If it was me, I would run the 0w40 as it is a moderately heavy 40wt that does not shear much at all and is closer in wt to what the factory fill is before the Motorcraft shears.
