How are your vinyl stripes holding up?

Just curious how long the vinyl stripes will hold up. Do any of you guys have peeling, tears, scratches, or fading/discoloration showing on them?

I live in Southern California where it's hot most of the time and I'm nervous that black stripes will be baked in 3 years.

I've had vinyl on my decklid for a few years now, if that helps at all?...No peeling, tears, scratches, fading, stains, etc. I live in Texas, and the heat hasn't been an issue at all.

Mine are peeling and being replaced by warranty. We will see if the new ones hold up.

Mine too. Well, peeling anyway, but dealer said nothing they could do. Maybe try again when I pull it out of storage.

I have a stone chip in my white hood decal, it didn't do anything to paint, but it stands out like crazy because of the Kona Blue underneath..

My last car 2004 Mach1 had 22,000 miles on it and I never even had a stone chip anywhere on front of car. The Boss has 4,700 and already..grrrrr

Why not replace the decal. You can get an after market one for $50.00 or all the way to an OEM one for a couple of hundred. Or run it without one for a while. Better than looking at the stone chip every time you drive it.

Wow, my dealer gave me no issues at all. My wife just took it in, showed them the 3 spots it was coming off and they had an answer from Ford in about 30 minutes that Ford would authorize the replacement of all stripes. Maybe you should try a different dealer?

my B and O are lifting on the passenger side but have been since day 1 keep forgetting to mention it when the car is at the dealer. is worse on warm days so I'll probably wait till summer to have them look at it.

My stripes are safe and fine in my garage with 6" of Detroit snow outside.
Have yet to drive on it with my Pirelli snow tires.

Some Boss owners are not going to agree with what I'm about to say:

I'm thinking of buying a Boss 302, but the problems with the vinyl stripes are making me think twice about it. I know there is a lot more to the Boss 302 than its stripes. But the idea of shelling out nearly 50 grand for a car that will have issues with what can arguably be the car's main identifying feature (The Boss logo and its stripes) really sucks!

Maybe the reason more people haven't commented about this is because the Boss has only been out for two years and most guys haven't had a problem with the stripes...yet, or most that have had problems are not worried because they are getting the stripes fixed under warranty. But what about life after the 3 year bumper-to-bumper warranty? It almost seems inevitable that with enough wear and tear/washing that everyone will have issues with the vinyl peeling/fading soon. This seems like a bigger problem for those with a 2013 Boss than the 2012 Boss that has a painted hood and roof. The 2013s have the massive vinyl stripe going down the center of the hood, draping down both sides of the car, and then extending back the entire length of the car.

To me, it seems like it's that only a matter of time before Boss owners are faced with two options:

1. Replacing the vinyl which sounds like a complete nightmare because it involves removing the old vinyl without causing damage to the paint, re-prepping the surface, and applying new vinyl stripes/logos while making sure it all goes on perfectly straight.

2. Paying lots of money (probably thousands of dollars) to have the stripes professionally painted on so they will never come off.

Without selecting one of these options, can you imagine what the vinyl is going to look like on all Boss 302s in 10 years? This is supposed to be a limited edition car and some people are buying it as an investment. Ford should have painted the stripes on so they would last and the car can hold its value. There's no doubt that it was cheaper for Ford to have a machine apply vinyl stripes than to have them painted on. But it forces everyone who actually drives the car to replace them in a few years, and this may affect the value of the car since it alters it from its original state.

There I got it off my chest. Do I still want a Boss? Yep.

Please don't let a potential stripe issue keep you from buying this car. There are vinyl protection sprays that protect for UV damage, also gentle washing will help prevent edges from lifting. The vinyl is $1000 for the whole car if needed and it's 1 day and some alcohol and dish soap to replace. Put the on myself almost 2 years ago and no issues to date. These cars are special collector cars that mark a high point in Mustang performance history. Like the Shelbys and Ford GT these are the real deal. I am still waiting for 2016 to grab a low mileage car from someone who is bored and is going to sell for half price. Until then I keep enjoying the one I built myself. So please go for it and enjoy.
Steve

Mine has a little scrap, of backing paper sticking out of the letter "S" on the RS, it's a spot about the size of a pin right on the lower edge of the letter. I showed it to the body shop manager (and good friend) and he said if it were his, he'd leave it alone. When all the paper loses grip and falls out, he said they would insert adhesive under it and press it down. Seeing the lift is on the lower edge of the letter, water won't wreck the rest of the adhesive. Personally, I'd rather leave it alone than chance having someone not get the replacement letters perfect like factory. WTF, even at $45K, it's still a FORD. I'd be pissed if it were a MB or BMW.

tifo, The 2012 has a sticker on the hood, the roof is painted though. I have zero issue's with vinyl stickers and they hold up pretty well. I make sure it's coated with wax to help block the UV's but that's about it. The 2013's had an issue with the adhesive, which sucks, and I hope it was fixed.

Where/How did you hear about the adhesive issue? Is it the adhesive used for all 2013 Boss stripes and decals?

Initial prodution was halted on the 2013 because there was a problem with the adhesive.

I have not had any issues with the stripes on my '12. As mentioned, the hood is a decal as well. Roof is paint.
I had a set of aftermarket C-Stripes on my 06 GT for over 5 years & had no problems with them.
Not sure about the '69 Boss' but I know for a fact the '70 Boss had stickers/vinyl for the stripes. I had repained & re-striped my '70 Boss. The hood center & trunk lid were painted, but not the hood & side stripes. I did not have any issues with the stripes on the '70 & had it for a number of years after the repaint.
The 2013's had a initial problem with the stripe adhesion on the nose only & some minor bubbling in the same area which was corrected after the first batch production run.
Would not be too concerned with stripe issues & just enjoy the car when you get it.
