Hit the 1/4 mile tonight!

Our track has been closed for a couple of years and tonight was the first time it has been open since. Loaded up the wife..met some friends for dinner and then headed out to the track to watch some 1/4 action. When we got there, if you were "running your car" you could park trackside..otherwise you were in the grass a good distance away. Didn't want the wife to have to make the trek so I sprung for a tech card just for the primo parking. A little later a friend in a Camaro showed up so we decided..What the heck!" We had already paid....let's make a hit or two.
Let me state I was TOTALLY UNPREPARED!. Drove to the track with the A/C on..no tools..not even a tire guage. The trunk was full of crap from a car show so this was not going to be a "best possible scenario".
Car was hot (197) when I pulled into the waterbox. Shut off the A/C, traction control and rolled thru the waterbox and lit em up..STOCK TIRES with 38+psi!
Result was lame at best but fun non the less!

r/t .198
60ft 2.112
330 5.68
1/8 8.609 @ 87.15
1/4 13.09 @ 108.99

Launched at 3000 slippin the clutch and still spun a little.
spun a bit on the 1-2 and 2-3 gear changes and chirped 4th.

I TRIED to get a 12.99 but ambient temp was high 90's and with no prep it just didn't happen. I had fun and I might try it again with some prep and stickier rear tires..

Nice. How badly did you beat your friend in the Camaro?

It probably wouldn't have made a difference..I did a healthy burnout so there wasn't any water left in the treads...

I've read that before for stock tires. Several said they got the best results that way, and only a short burnout to 'clean' the tires up.

Any smoke is usually too much heat for a regular street tire like that. Cleaning them up or dry hopping them after skipping the water box is about as good as you can do.

if you drive through the water box, your fronts hold water. also the ac drips water on the line. leave at 2500 and feather the clutch. when the rpms match floor it. if you drop you tire pressures to 28 it won't hurt the tires on the way to the first place to air them back up.

you can breath on the lcutch on shifts with the MT82 and pull it hard. it will go in. it can be shifted VERY quickly. about as quick as the clutch is pressed, you should be in the next gear with the clutch released.

that fast.

I don't think with stock tires 2.01 is a bad time. Nice run!
