Has anyone thought of changing the mufflers on the Boss?

You should take that comment from mwilson as definitive.

Why? If you want it louder just open up the side pipes. Most to the reviews stated that it was one of the most incredible sounding cars ever......stock.

Yes. I'll have to dig up the link (I think it was on Boss Mustangs Online) where someone asked if the Boss mufflers were the same as the GT500. A Ford tech said that the Boss mufflers were the same as the V8 auto trans 2.5" mufflers due to NVH, or something along those lines. That's when I decided to try GT500 mufflers on my Boss when I get it. As a matter of fact, I ordered the mufflers today. **** the NVH.

That was me that asked that question. Why would you spend money on GT500 mufflers? Really. Just open up the side pipes. Ford spent a lot of time tweaking the exhaust system to get the desired sound. Hopefully s197ford will drop in with a comment. Looks like he worked on that aspect of the development of the Boss and he's the one that posted the exhaust testing videos on YouTube.

Because I don't have to follow production car requirements the Ford does. And I can always swap them back easily if I don't like them. Besides, they're pretty cheap and sound sweet on the MGT 5.0. I tell you what, I'll experiment with them, and you all can decide if they're worth it or not for yourselves. I'm going to give it a shot.

I should have included "before you even hear your car". I'm sure it will sound good though.

Why spend money changing the color of the roof and stripes or the radio or the wheels

But I'm curious as to any possible weight reduction from switching mufflers

Get the GT500 mufflers and eliminate the side pipes. It will be just about as loud and 10-20 pounds lighter.

I will sell my stock GT500 mufflers. I'm running the SVT1 mufflers on my GT500.
