Ford event and Concert
Ford event and Concert
Hey guys. I came across 2 free tickets to a Ford event, where they will be unveiling the 2013 mustang and a free concert by "Bravery". I live in NY and CA is a little far to travel for a concert. I will give them to the first person that PM's me. All I ask is that you post up some pics!
The concert will be held at the Belasco Theatre, 1050 S. Hill Street, Los Angeles, CA.

I am. Thanks to Jason and LQQK for the tickets, so a couple friends can come along. Yeah, I'm keeping my Boss at home. I'll be wearing a Competition Orange hoodie (not really CO, but it is orange).
I only needed one of the tickets from LQQK, so if anybody wants 1 ticket, I can email it to them.

There were 4 mustangs at the event: V6 convertible, GT convertible, Boss LS, Shelby GT500. Jim Farley introduced the cars and spent the most time talking about the GT500. Carroll Shelby also spoke and said that whenever he's asked what is his favorite car, he'd always say it's his next one. He went on to say that he had to change what he would say to the 2013 GT500 being his favorite car.
I also got a chance to speak with Dave Pericak, the chief engineer for the Mustang. I asked him about TracKey and he said they did have to change the idle from the Speed Channel video demonstration to get it passed CARB. He did admit it wasn't the same, but the choice was either to kill the TracKey or have a milder idle and still be able to offer it. TracKey will be available for the 2013 model. My friend asked him how long they will produce the Boss, and he said all that he's allowed to say is that history will be repeating itself.
Here are some pics from the event. You can see the rest of the decent ones here. I'm sorry I don't have any more. It was crowded so I couldn't stand back far enough to get a good angle and the lighting was awful. I had to turn my flash on, which really shows off the gray reflective stripes on the Laguna Seca. The one thing I didn't notice from the media pics on the web but saw in person was that the taillights are now flush with the trunk lid. Up to now, the mustang's lights did not line up with the trunk lid, which to me, didn't look right. It isn't a big deal, but I like how they improved it in the 2013 model. Also, the hood vents on the Boss are about 16 inches long -- to give you an idea how big they are.
I also noticed that, on the GT500, there is no grill. I asked Dave Pericak about that, and he said that's how it needs to be to meet the cooling requirements for the car.

Awesome details you gathered, thank you very much. You did better than any of the media thus far... I don't suppose you asked if the Boss regular wheels where carrying over?
Also, you gave us the facts, but what did you think of the cars?
Thanks again.

I'm betting Yes.
Another thing to support the idea of a Boss 351 is the 2014 is the last year for this platform, so it will send it off with a bang, and also b/c of the switch to the 5.8L in the GT500; there is your 351.

"History will be repeating itself" - straight from the horses mouth.

I think they should have kept the GT500 front end exclusive to the car. It costs considerably more than the other mustangs, so it deserves to be aesthetically different. Also, I think for us 2012 owners, having the different front end will make the aftermarket more difficult. Manufacturers will have a harder time justifying production of parts (like hoods, grills, etc) since there will be less of a market for them. On the other hand, from a collector's point of view, this makes each year more rare...
I do like how they made the Boss LS a little more subtle by making the roof body color. I, PERSONALLY, don't like the bright red roof. When I saw it at Laguna Seca last year during Monterey weekend, I thought it was a bit much (I guess I'm conservative that way). With the body colored roof, I think it looks much better. I also like the reflective stripes. I like the C-Stripe better than the hockey stripe, but that's a matter of taste. I had hoped they would have had all the new colors, but that was wishful thinking.
Also, my friend asked Dave Pericak how the new GT500 compares to the ZL-1 on the track and strip. He said the GT500 will kick its butt -- but I guess we couldn't expect him to say anything different...

No, I didn't take my BOSS. I had 2 passengers, plus I wasn't sure about parking. I did see a few GT500s in the parking lot. Some guys from BCMC and a bunch from the LA Shelby club were there.
