For the first time I bought an extended warranty for my new Boss. I am not sure if i made the right decision. This Platinum Quality Care warranty extends the Ford Warranty by 2 years, still at 36,000 miles ( i dont use the car to commute). Costs $610.00. Said to cover same components as Ford.

 

2 year extension and miles stay the same?¿ Sound like a rip off too me.

 

Yesterday as we were wrapping up the sale of the Boss, we were taken to the Finance and Insurance person who "does all our sales paperwork" It added about an hour to the process as we had to wait our turn with a couple already in front of us.

Once were ushered into the office we were given the usual sales and registration stuff, and then came "The Pitch". We were offered several plans for Full Maintenance over six years, Extended mechanical warranties, and then the four year paint warranty (Perma Plate.) We were told that some would cover us up to 100,000 miles...and asked, "How many miles do you expect to have on your Mustang after seven years?

I paused, and then said...."Maybe 8,000 miles, if I drove it a lot". It was then clear that they weren't going to sell me any extended warranties, and the list quickly got pushed into a pile of completed paperwork.

BUT, nothing they were offering were as inexpensive as the one you were offered @ $610 for 2 additional years.

I would have considered that, but what was offered was like $2,400, $1,800, and $400 something; and perhaps if I had been given the information beforehand, I might have been receptive. But when you're given large numbers on top of what you're paying for the car, all you want to do is get out of there.

If this is the Ford ESP, then it isn't a bad deal since you won't be driving every day. The powertrain warranty on the normal 5.0 is Five years or 60,000 miles. I am not sure about the Boss. The good thing, and you should read your paperwork, you are entitled to a loaner anytime you take the car in, even for an oil change.

I bought the 7/100,000 Premium Care for $1180, but not from the selling dealer, simply because of the cost of repairing/replacing electronic components not associated with the powertrain, after the 3/36000 runs out.

It is all a matter of piece of mind. If you don't plan to mod it or race it, then you can be happy knowing Ford will repair any problems for that extra two years.

 

If I got a 2 year extension, even with no additional miles, it would be a great deal. I've purchased seven new vehicles since Nov of 2003 and none of them have reached 36,000 miles in the length of time the warranty was in effect.

 

You would have to drive it less than 138 miles a week just to break it even. If you do that than I don't see the need for the warranty with that little of driving it. Although I do live in California and we drive here and as a lot of you east coasters stated you guys store your vehicle for seasons, so it might be worth it.

138 miles a week would be a "high mileage" car for me. The Boss is not a daily driver by any means. I sold an 02 Boxter S with just 1,400 miles after 3 years; and a MINI GP with 3,400 miles after 5 years.

 

They have the same warranty. I seriously doubt I'll be anywhere close to 60,000 miles at the end of five years and did not purchase an extended warranty.

 

if you plan on doing any mods or upgrades do not bother

 

So if i race without serious mods, are 'most warranties' null and void, if so, it was a bad decision. I will be posting the fine print when i find it. Need to do that tonight!

 

I'm 99.99% positive you can cancel and get a refund on the extended warranty purchase.

 

For those wanting an extended warranty, check "Flood Ford" who has the best prices for authentic warranties. How do I know; someone on this forum late last year or early 2011 had done the research and it was true. Warranty is honored throughout entire country.

I was told when purchasing my Boss that the standard original Boss warranty is actually 3YRS/36,000 unlike other models.
and purchased the 5YRS/60,000 on mine

 

So did you end up going with the Ford ESP or a third party insurance?

That's where I purchased mine. Great deal.

 

I paid 800.00 total, Zero deductible, 7 years bumper to bumper, 48,000 miles, because I knew I wasent going to be.putting mileage on. I had. 2004 Mach1 and only had 21,000 miles after 7 years.

Did you get yours at the dealer you bought your car from? Or did you shop around after you bought the car? If so, where did you get it from?

 

I bought mine from Dealer, we just kept playing with different scenarios, to get best to match my Use.
Then my wife beat him up on price.LoL.
