Do we have skip shift?

I occasionally see the "skip shift" indicator light up, but I have never felt anything to force me to 4th. I can put it into 2nd with normal effort even when the display says skip shift is active.

So does the Boss only have the display but not the enforcement in the transmission?

Or did I get lucky and get a "defective" car?

Mine tries to cross over into forth, but with a little effort, you can go into second.

The Boss does come with Skip Shift. I have disconnected the solenoid @ the trans on mine.

Thanks. I'll have to experiment some more, but I've never felt it kick in. Now here's a defect I'm not going to complain about.

Did you just unplug it and leave it like that, or did you hook up a bypass to it?

Do you have any pics of the solenoid? I HATE skip shift!

Mine only engages skip-shift when I'm entering an on-ramp.

Ok, today I did repeated slow take-offs and finally got it to force me into 4th. So no "defect". Bummer.

It's a lot less annoying than the skip-shift in my '96 Z28 was. I have to really try to get it to engage in the Boss.

I had just unplugged the connector to the solenoid, taped it up & ty-rap it out of the way.

This thread will give you a drawing.

No codes or warnings showing up on the dash? I don't want to have to hit reset every time I start the car.

I have to ask, why did Ford put this in a performance car??? If I wanted great MPG's, I would have bought a Feista, not a Mustang.

Most likely to get the mileage up enough to keep us from paying a gas guzzler tax.

No codes will come up, it will still display the 'Shift 1st - 4th for Fuel Economy' on your dash but thats all.

I have not seen the skip-shift message yet,or felt the lockout.Unlike the Corvette where the first mod was to pull the plug and cap the solenoid.

Funny thing is, at 17/26 I am calculating that it would cause a gas guzzler tax. Same with a 3.73 GT. (also 17/26). Even with assuming 17.49 and 26.49 I am still falling short of the 22.5 on calculating combined fuel economy. So it must fall under the disclaimer:

EPA and manufacturers use the same test to measure vehicle fuel economy for the Gas Guzzler Tax and for new car fuel economy labels. However, the calculation procedures for tax and label purposes differ, resulting in different fuel economy values. This is because an adjustment factor is applied to the fuel economy test results for purposes of the label, but not for the tax. The adjustment is intended to help account for the differences between “real-world” and laboratory testing conditions.

More important than gas guzzler though is CAFE.

Thanks man! When I do my 1000 mile oil change, I'll do that and take out the plates in the side exhaust.
