Distorted Rear Window
Distorted Rear Window
About the bottom third of my Boss's back window is distorted. Cars behind get taller like a circus mirror as they get closer.
Took it to the local Ford dealer and the body shop guy said all the Mustangs have that problem, and he blamed it on the defog wiring grid in the glass. Since defog wiring grids have been around for at least 30 years, you have to wonder why Ford is having this problem in 2012.
Has anyone else noticed this, and does anyone know if Ford has a "Mustang problem" that everyone just accepts as normal?
I would like to move this past the local dealer - any idea who I should email?
Thanks in advance if you can help. Otherwise the Boss is a great car - just installed TK.

Not sure if you saw my other post. Please PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, and contact info so I can review this for you.

Deysha, Juast a question: By asking for the VIN, dealer, mileage it sounds like there was a bad batch of rear windows. Should all Boss owners be concerned. My car is covered for the winter and also has rear louvers so it's not easy to see if the rear window is a problem. If there is a suppected problem, I will go and uncover it, pull it outside and lift the louvers to check. Will wait for your guideance.

So, what was the outcome?
I think I have this problem on my 2014. The cars I see in the rear view mirror are slimmer than normal.
Yes, I'm sober.

Solution #1: Replace rear window with a new one.
Con: Do I really want a "tech" of unknown experience and expertise taking out the rear window and replacing it on my brand new car. Will the seal be of the same quality as the assembly line at the Ford factory?
Solution #2: Replace the rear view mirror with glass that corrects astigmatism and gives a non-distorted image. Sort of a Toric rear view mirror?
Con: Would the mirror need periodic prescription changes during the life of the car. Or, would the mirror simply fall off from time to time because it's not a factory installation?
Solution #3: Limo tint the rear glass so dark you can't see the distortion?
Con: Limited perception of overtaking law enforcement vehicles.
Seriously, I really hate the thought of anybody working on my brand new car. I was flinching when the guys at Midas put on the GT500 mufflers.
Happy Holidays,
Dave

Hello Deysha. Thanks for monitoring the Forum and offering to help.
The fix would be to replace the distorted rear window under warranty. Frankly, that is an option I would be very hesitant to choose.
I think I'll just live with the distortion. It makes my Mustang unique,............along with the other owners that have this problem. Why Ford let these cars out of the factory to be sold will probably remain a mystery.
Best wishes,
Dave
