Just in case there are some that don't know, the serial number (last few numbers of the VIN) have nothing to do with the order they're built. The serial number is simply the order the cars were assigned a VIN.

Also, don't forget it's called a VIN. Not a 'VIN number'.
That would make it a Vehicle Identification Number number.

I'm trying to find that out another way. My good friend's daughter is an engineer at Ford and knows the Boss's boss. I asked her to find out when production starts. I should know Monday or Tuesday.

 

I'm trying to figure out how to decode the vin better.
some are CU9C5 and others are CU5C5, what does it mean?

The middle digit in your examples is the check digit. It is calculated based upon the other digits in the complete VIN. It's purpose is to verify that the VIN is legit (i.e. no errors were made in copying it into the system).

Could be an oversight at the dealer? I thought VIN and production were tied together a little.

not kidding, I received a VIN and build week close together. I was thinking that the VIN comes before production.

I am not for sure if it will start next week or the week after, but soon. My salesman is really a good guy and lets me know every little move up the chain. I will keep everyone informed as he lets me know.

 

It must have already started according to this post from Cust. serv. On 2/3/11:

"At this time there are no material holds or any other holds. However, there are many factors to an order not moving as fast as others. I you’d like, send me your order # and your dealer name via private message and I can track it for you."

It was supposed to start 1/18/2011.
