I have the cover that came with the Boss only. It does not seem to have any soft backing. I assume it is suitable to use outside though.
We are expecting 70-90 mph winds here. I have the cover on the car right now (for the first time) and I would expect as the winds pick up it will billow out and slap on the car's paint possibly causing scuff marks and wear. We are probably looking at more than a day of winds.
With that in mind, am I better off just taking off the cover and taking my chances or - the risk of marking up the paint is really not that bad and just leave it on for the protection from debris?

 

There are indoor & outdoor covers, not sure which the Boss is. If it is not very tight fitting, youre better off taking it off. I have gust guards that Im watching closely. If theres too much flap, Ill remove the whole cover because even an outdoor one can absolutely scratch up your car if it isnt snug. And if you have gust guards, attach them near the wheels, so the lines arent sitting on painted surfaces.

 

I have not seen anything addressing if the boss cover is an outdoor cover but I believe it was made by Covercraft. I was actually going to buy a heavy duty cover from them but held off as if the "Boss" one is really the same product I dont need two.

 

You will be better off without the cover in this storm.

 

Just don't park near any trees or telephone poles.
A wide open lot might be your best bet, or underneath a bank drive through cover.

Agreed though, no cover.

A cover will beat the heck out of your car in a heavy wind, especially if it is gusting. Your best bet is to find a friend with free space in his garage.

Anyone here have any experience with flooded cars? Do's and don'ts, courses of action? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

My only experience is that flood damage quickly makes a car worthless. Electronics are the first to go. Mechanical and hydraulic systems need to be checked for water. Metal and frame parts can hold a lot of water that will not dry quickly unless taken apart. Interior cloth, leather and carpet parts are salvageable if cleaned and dried quickly.

I wouldn't want to keep a car that has flood damage, unless the damage can be isolated to a few easily replaceable parts. If you have the coverage and a reasonable deductible, just talk to your agent.

 

Thanks everyone. I had taken the cover off before the storm hit. No tree limbs on it alhtough three went down on my yard. We have no power and no hot water for the last few days but I should have a genorator in the next few hours.
I did what I could around the house and then of course....washed the car
the neighbors were not suprised to see that. A man has to have his priorities.

Unfortunately, a cover did not help this Boss owner during Hurricane Sandy.

 

Omg if I saw that, I think the adrenaline rush would have me throw that little wannabe Benz SUV right off the car. Well, at least someone might be able to score a Boss motor/brakes/interior for a discount?

Insurance company has totaled all my cars including the Boss. Now I am just waiting to see what value they put on them.

Absolutely. 4 cars totaled. In addition to the Boss I had a pristine 88' 911Turbo with 62k that went under. These were the ones in the garage, not to mention the water damage to the lower level of my house and all the contents. An absolute disaster.
