[censored] it, Ford.

Why would the battery post of a 2 year old car with 9K miles look like this?

Bet hey, spending 2 hours with a small screwdriver, vinegar and a brush was fun.

Slobbered it in grease to hopefully prevent it from happening again.

Bad connections, exposure to air, can cause that as can a weak battery. Hopefully the corrosion did not travel further into the wrapped cable. I use baking soda and water....cleans up in about 10 minutes plus neutralizes the acidic action. Then some fine cleaning once the cable is removed.

How did you not see it starting in a two year period?

Just never looked over at the battery, I guess. Noticed it as I was checking the oil. Good news is the engine uses no oil at all.

To me it looks like the battery was filled and overflowed. You can see acid stains on that side of the battery.

Maybe? Must have been at the factory, then. I never filled it and it's never been at the dealer or a shop (I do my own oil changes).

Hey zwede,

Just to be on the safe side, you should have your dealer check it out. Let me know the outcome.

Check the battery to see if the battery is tight and not moving around.

What maintenance would that be? I've had tons of cars over the last 25 years. Never seen anything like this before.

Also again i doubt they made the batteries. Also head the ford reps advice and take it in before you get to another point where you blame ford again because you didn't take the proper precautions.

Wasn't yours on the other battery post? How has it been since the Cobra Jet tour?

Ford bought the batteries. The batteries have the Motorcraft logo on them. They are manufactured to Ford specifications. They are Ford's responsibility.

I really loath people like you. It's obviously a manufacturing problem but in your mind "Don't blame Ford, it must be the drivers fault". NOTHING the owner does causes corrosion on the battery terminal. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. And if the owner has to clean the terminal then that is because Ford did a poor job.

There is no one else to blame except Ford, unless you can give me a REALLY good reason why none of my Nissans, Hondas, GMs, or Toyotas have ever done the same thing.

Oh, and FYI, my Ford battery died and had to be replaced less than 9 months after I bought the car, but I suspect you don't want me to blame that on Ford either, despite the fact that they took full responsibility and replaced it for free.

Says 'distributed by'

That didn't happen overnight though.

Look at mine.
Keep in mind that's my original battery that's finally kicked the bucket.
Cleaned it once, this was a couple weeks later. The eye is red at this point.
