Brake System Maintenance question??

Has anybody here ever used or have experience with MOTIVE PRODUCTS Power Bleeders for brakes? I was looking at their stuff and it seems like it might be a good deal to to some at the track "one man operation" brake bleeding...opinions please..

Thanks
Don

They work great. I've used one for years. I did have a problem with the hose cracking after a few years spraying brake fluid around. Recommend you replace the clear plastic hose they supply with a high quality rubber hose. I used transmission fluid hose and it has held up.

I've used one for quite a few years also. Great product and easy to use.

Great product just make sure you get the right adaptor for the Ford. Big hint, do not put brake fluid in the Motive bleeder, just use it to pressurize the Master Cyl. Disconnect and add fluid to the master cyl, as necessary. Much neater and no need to clean the Motive and throw away excess fluid.

Why would you throw away excess fluid?

This is not the best setup. While it is convenient, using pressure to bleed the brakes adds moisture from the pressurized air into the brake fluid, degrading its performance. The best system is one that uses vacuum to draw the fluid from the caliper end.

I presume the assumption is the excess fluid has absorbed moisture.

So anytime you open a new bottle of fluid, you have to throw the rest away?

Depending how much is left in it (fuller the better) you can store it for a short period. I will sometimes do this, I close the original can put it in a plastic bag and store it inside for a quick caliper flush after a track day or two. After a month or two I would throw it out. If you happen to leave it sitting with the cap off for a few hours, chuck it.

If you suck most of the fluid out of the reservoir with a mighty vac to begin with, you can use the Motive catch bottle to catch every bit of the rest you flush out.

Mmmmmmm Blue.
