Boss Sides + GT500ab and Resonators

I'd like to kindly ask for an advise from Boss 302 owners or anyone with this setup out there.

Thought a lot about Resonator deletes to compliment the GT500 (single tip) axle-backs but I ended up adding the Boss Side Exhaust to my GT instead. With baffles removed, these things sound glorious I must say.

After a while though, it is starting to get a little obnoxious especially at highway speeds. I plan to put the baffles back in, maybe drill them out a bit so I don't loose too much sound but what about the resonators?

I am curious to know if there's any benefit to the sound by removing the resonators with Boss Side Exhaust & GT500ab set up.

Thanks guys!

I am running the same exhaust and I agree at highway speeds it's loud inside. My plan is to put the QTP Boss 302 cutouts in so I can close off the Boss side exhaust when cruising the highways

I thought about that, liked the idea of having control...but hmm. Maybe I'll try the baffles mod first. The GT500 axleback on the other hand, is hardly audible with baffles gone. What will resonator delete bring to the table, would it make the sound even more obnoxious?!

I think your sound level will go up. Might, just might... also increase your risk of resonance or drone at highway speeds. I just replaced my Boss's H pipe/side exhaust with an O/R X pipe and GT 500 axle backs. I've got plenty of exhaust note and can easily hear the crackle when I let off the throttle. I feel I'm not missing much if any of the sound by ditching the side pipes....IMHO. So if the side exhausts are frustrating you....maybe an O/R X pipe might be a potential solution for you?

Thank you Wayne! I just put the baffles back in today with some 3/4" drilling. Need to do more test driving, but the noise inside the cabin seems more forgiving on highway vs wide open. I lost some good amount of roar though. Might try the resonator delete now, hopefully it will give 'this is it!' sound lol.

With the QTP you can either have the side exhaust open closed or ANYWHERE in between. they are not cheap, but you have a lot more flexibility with sound.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, my concern towards QTP was the fact that they are electronic(?) devices (well, the pricing too). Not sure how long the motor will last, don't want to go through replacing it...etc. I like the old fashion way. But... might end up getting it. I'm not making any sense here lol.

In my opinion the side pipes and the sound they produce is an important part of the personality of the Boss. The QTP cutouts allow you to keep that feature but adds the ability to tune the exhaust to the your situation or mood. It's a great addition.

I have the QTPs (along with GT500 mufflers) and adjust them all the time - closed on the highway, partially open most of the the time and wide open when the mood strikes.

I'd highly recommend the QTPs if you can swing the cost. There isn't just one best exhaust sound and they give you the ability to adapt to that.

Thank you for kind advise. I'll certainly look into QTPs, I too agree its a great addition. The Boss side pipes are truly unique piece of equipment indeed, I just knew I had to get it.

As for GT500ab's though, did you by any chance delete the resonators? I just spoke with my performance shop, and there seems to be a possibility of getting drone at highway speeds (this is why I put the baffles back in).

Many will disagree, I have also seen quite a few video clips and they sound good. But what about at highway speeds or at long distance travel?

Also, I heard Shelby GT500s don't have resonators from the factory (only v6, GT, Boss has them). Is this true? If so, do they drone?

ever thought about keeping the stock exhaust and doing Cat delete. Let alone the 15 to 20hp you will pick up is nothing to sneeze about for the cost. I have Roush axel back exhaust and cat delete and it loud...very loud. Was thinking about going back to stock mufflers or Gt500. I fell in love with the extra horse power.

No, I just changed out the mufflers and added the QTPs.

Sorry I didn't pick up on your having a GT the first time around but my opinion on side exhaust with QTPs still applies.

I have that exact setup

Ditto

I have the GT500 over axle pipes (no resonators) and GT500 axle backs on my Boss with open stock side pipes

I'm happy with the setup and have no drone

I've got Kooks LT's O/R X GT500 (2013) GT 500 mufflers. I'm having the resonators removed on Friday

Update: resonators deleted and it's the best sound yet or me. Sound is subjective. I like it loud. No drone and to me, not obnoxious.

Here's a little video with resonators deleted;
