Boss at the Dallas New Car Show...# 42

It is number 42 and it was locked up but people kept going up to it and jerking the heck out of the door handles trying to get into it.

More pics of the show and the Boss at the link to my blog page below...

Oh, I did not know the pre-production cars were numbered. I wanted to pop the hoods on the cars in Palm Beach but forgot.

My guess is Mfr Prototype

This car is not intended for normal retail sale. The VIN is below C5200000.

Thanks Vince, prototype was the world that I couldn't think of earlier.

Yeah, I must be a pre-production / Manufacturer Prototype prefix. I noticed that the LS used in the R&T article was also an MP prefix vehicle.

I wonder if Ford will sell these to the public or have to destroy them?

I asked that question and they said if they can refurbish the car so it is like new they would go to auction, if not it would be destroyed. Also Miller is suppose to get four.

they do that with press fleet cars so they don't affect the limited status. they are numbered but aren't official production cars. that way they don't have 35 or 40 of them spread around the country out of a 4000 unit run that can't be sold. it's kind of odd, the cars have window stickers like any normal car, but the stickers say not for sale instead of listing a price. generally you get an email with a monroney and then an attachment that tells you what is on the car and how much it would cost since the sticker has no price listed.

the way ford works their press fleet is to have multiple vehicles in different areas to serve different parts of the country. the eastern and southern parts of Texas are out of Dallas. they have different press vehicle caches around and they send out drivers to drop the cars off at the various homes and offices of writers to spend a week with the cars at a time. the cars are worked hard and naturally can't just be sent to a dealer to be sold. i always wonder what happens to those cars when the next model year comes out. i have this sick feeling that they get crushed or torn apart for engineering or something. that car will be part of the dallas press fleet, the car will then go back and get sent out to writers to drive.
