Lightened valvetrain components provide improved performance and can easily handle the 7500 RPM redline and beyond.

And Beyond!!!

I saw the cut away in person at the NAIAS in Detroit. I got a kick out of the tag on the Head. It reads High-strength fully C&C machined cylinder heads. They need to proof read these better. It should read CNC not C&C. I am in the machine tool business so it jumped right out at me. Our CNC lines machine the Blocks, Heads and Cranks at the various Ford engine plants for the 5.0L (Coyote) and some other powertrains (i.e.-some V6's).

It's really what this car is all about. I believe the race teams take them to 8,000.

This is the problem with getting an early car. Who's going to test this!? I'll be a guinea pig on some things guys but not sure about this part. I am hoping a tuner gets one of these early cars and tests it to 8k a few hundred times.

Yep I don't have the budget of a race team. Other than TracKey my engine will remain stock. Now where are Ford's electric dump valves?

Anyone know what the differences are between the Boss 302 and Boss 302R engines?

Ah, just like the old days, except the tune Some of the hardest to find and most expensive Boss parts are the smog equipment. Most went straight into the trash can the day after delivery.

One of the performance oriented Mustang rags (can't remember which but I do have the article at home) mentioned that the TracKey provides essentially the 302R tune for the Boss.

Anyone heard similar?

I remember reading an article that said that. Just more performance parts and revs in the 302 R

Regardless of where you read that it's incorrect. The 302R has no smog equipment, different exhaust, rev's higher, and runs 98 octane racing gas. How can the tunes be "essentially" the same?

Here it is, from the April, 2011 issue of 5.0 Mustang magazine - 5.0 Buzz by Steve Turner's Unlocking the Power article: "We installed the 302R software on the same PCM that held the stock Boss software...Then the controls engineers developed a software system to activate one or the other, depending upon which key was used to start the vehicle".

Granted, there are the differences that you mentioned, but it may be that the 302R software is really on the TracKey activated Boss 302.

Who is being quoted here? No way it's the same with the differences I mentioned. No way. That's just marketing talk. But don't believe me read reply's #17 and #19 in this thread. I'm believing this guy over anyone quoted in that article.

Very cool. Still don't get why they didn't just use forged steel rods, since they went ahead and upgraded to forged aluminum pistons. This car is so freaking cool, I have a feeling it's actual performance numbers are going to suprise a lot of people, in a good way.

It's Jeff Seaman, a Mustang powertrain engineer. For a more complete quote and article check out post #58 on this thread.
