Nice, been waiting for this car to pass through two driver's hands, and that was one of them. Didn't MT earlier get it under 1:40.99?

Just need the white suited mang to push it through the European Tarmac.

Not sure how to quote Twitter on here, but the Man in White has had his turn...

This is from a UK mag that is about to publish a review of the LS:
SkiddMark
@DriversRepublic SkiddMark
@GFWilliams - they had an orange standard car didn't they? This is the full-banana Laguna Seca in Batman-Black. TG used it recently..

Yes, I am wondering if the LS will make an appearance on TGUK in the winter season. I would love to see it get flogged by The Stig.

Motor Trend got the BASE Boss to run a 1.40. Supposedly they got the LS to run 1:39 as well.

The data for all this stuff would be in the Feb/March 2011 timeframe.

word. Though even from that lap, looks like Pobst was pushing the car to get there. I wonder if it was just the shape of the car when tested and weather that resulted in that time.

Says a lot considering a Cayman S won the Drivers Car competition in 2009.

lost a little time coming out of 6?

if you look at Randy's shift pattern, it's slightly different than the motortrend video with the stock boss...both in 4 and 6. 6 seems like the bigger deal. in 4, the other driver hold 3rd gear whereas Randy grabs 4th before turn 4. I suspect that's about a 'push' in terms of times...but in 6 Randy leaves it in 4th...the other driver grabs 3rd at the crest before 6 and seems to exit 6 with a little more speed....and that's a pretty long / uphill piece until 8 (with 7 being kind of a non-turn). the other guy also holds 3rd gear from 8 all the way to 11, it seems...Randy went to 4th after 9. I'd say that other guy was a little tighter with his apexes and much more 'brave' with how much of the runouts he was using....

Dang, nice check, haha.

I'll say this, his entry to the corkscrew was entertaining to watch.

I've been going to the Motor Trend site everyday to follow the comparisons in this competition and thus far I think the Boss is the clear winner. The only car posting a better time costs over $300,000. While the winner is not the car with the fastest time, there are other aspects factored in, I think the Boss is in a very strong position.

Well, I think it's safe to say the 1M won't be winning!

On handling... "The 1M is an improvement on the 135, which I've spent some time in, but NOT my favorite car. In fact, I hate this car. It won't turn. The thing I didn't like about the 135 was its mid-corner understeer, its reluctance to turn once it was in the corner, and the 1M still does that. And it's the primary thing I remember after driving the car. That it is very lazy on turn-in."
Overall... "It's almost like it was built by safety engineers. But only until you get on the power, and then, getting on the power, it's not really good at putting the power down, either. I'm just not impressed with this car. I like the M3 so much that I find the 1M to be very, very disappointing, though the M3 understeers too much, too. I think the lawyers are running the handling department at BMW right now, and they don't have to. Just make it handle like the 1988 M3 did -- that car was perfect. You know, I hate to pick on what is obviously overall is a pretty good car, but in today's world there are not very many cars I hate...I hate this car."

You should see the motorcycles go through the corkscrew. It's even more entertaining.

Yep. It sounded like they did not remove the exhaust discs so maybe that's the difference.

I'm sure just comparing lap times won't be the only factor MT uses to determine best handling car. Remember, the Boss LS comes with R-compound tires. R-compound tires are probably worth a conservative 2-3 seconds per lap vs the summer rated tires on the standard Boss. Just my guess because I haven't driven that track and made a direct comparison between tires.

Final results

Here's the full article.

I won't spoil the results, but I have to say that the Boss had a great showing for being the least expensive car (by more than $100K in some cases).

"This has to be the best Mustang ever built," said Pobst. "It's without question the best Mustang ever made," declared road test editor Scott Mortara. "I can't believe this is a Mustang," said Justin Bell. "Best Mustang EV-AH, hands down," chimed none other than own Frank Markus. "Best-handling Mustang I've ever driven. The best Mustang they've ever built, frankly," says Scott Evans.

Ford knocked it out of the park. After BIR last weekend, there were a lot of Cayman owners asking what I'd done to the Boss. My response, "I put gas in it"
