I won't be able to tell you if I like them till sometime in April, and thats if the snow melts by then! I am hoping they are as good as the Pirellis. Who knows, maybe they're better!

 

man im glad you found that, it shows the pirellis on the car turned better lap times. the p zero even held more g-force in cornering. very odd that the s-04 performed better in performance driving than the p zero and then was beat at the track by the p zero. it looks like the extremecontact DW is the better track tire, even if a little worse on the street. they are cheaper too.

 

No prob man, Im goin to need tires real soon so Ive been doing some research. I liked the Pzero's but felt after a few track days and heat cycles they became really hard plus the price in crazy high. So Next year Im probably just going to get the Hankook v12's since they are all ill ever need out of a street tire. I already have two sets of Conti r compounds for my track days. Will be my first time ever on r compounds.

i was all set to go with the hankooks too and then saw the reviews from people tracking the car saying they weren't that great. that car and driver story used a pretty light car iirc so im not so sure if the stang will get the same out of the tires. those continentals are priced well and the pilot sports aren't in the right sizes that they tested and the PS that are are very expensive.

 

Another tire Im trying to find reviews/test on is the Toyo Proxes1, which comes in the sizes we need. Ive had good luck with Toyo's on previous vehicles.

 

ive read negative reviews for toyos when it comes to track work.

 

I mentioned them earlier and have a set in my garage. The vette guys seem to like them and from what I've read they should be at least on par with the Pirelli's and cost less.

I think the Hankooks should be fine for the street.

 

Cool don't know how I missed your post. I take you have not had a chance to try them out? Have you found any comparisons with the toyo's vs the pirelli's or PS2's?

 

I haven't. I bought them specifically for the track and will mount them on my stock Boss wheels. I figured at these prices if I don't like them I'll just use them on the street.

How long are your tires lasting? Mine never lasted all that long. Plus in a weekend your looking at 8 heat cycles minimum, so even if the car had tread, it might not have that much grip left. So don't obsess about the "right" tire, as you can try out a new set pretty soon.

 

ok i was at the track this weekend and the vorschlag guys were out with their 5.0 running their lightweight track wheels and the potenza RE-11 tires. those tires seem to work very well and they like them a lot after trying a lot of tires on the car.

I poked around and bridgestone makes the RE-11 in the exact rear size we need, 285/35-19. its the front that will be an issue, the closest they ahve is a 265/35-19. the stock tire on teh boss is 27-inch diameter, 4-inch sidewall, 13.5-inch radius, 84.9" circumference, and 746 revs per mile.

the 265/35 would be 3.7-inch sidewall, 13.2 radius, 26.3 diameter, and 82.6 circumference with 767 revs per mile. they are right there for fit.

does anyone think that little bit of a change would affect the handling of the car at all?

 

I run the track in my 2012 Shelby GT500. Last weekend I was passing BMWs, Corvettes and Lotuses at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson simply because it was raining, cold and decided to leave on my daily driver tires...Continental Extreme Contact DWs. You should look at them for the price and their grip is really good in wet and colder temps. I've driven them in temps as low as 28 degrees because the Shelby is my daily driver. I have never felt uncomfortable with their performance or their ride. It's a 300 mile trip to the track and I drove the entire way in the rain at interstate speeds. The F1 Supercars that came with the car are reserved for the track only during the warmer months.

We were so impressed with the Conti EC DWs performance at the track in those conditions that I just ordered a set for the husband's Corvette so maybe he can stay on the track when we head back in February.

He found out you definitely don't want to run Nitto NT05s in those conditions. The mud cleaned off nicely.

 

i ordered the s-04 PP tires today, they should be here next week. it will be a while before i can hit the track again
