Been posted here somewhere previously. The gloating in that thread is funny. The Boss has a lot of things going for it - looks, lighter, 80 ft-lb more torque than M3, $20,000 lower price tag. But yeah, $20k does buy some refinement. I would be embarrassed to be seen in a bland-looking European car, but I guess that's a personal preference.

The M3 really isn't that impressive to me. I've driven every model of the M series and there's nothing real impressive about them. BMW makes you pay for the extra comfort and amenities. The only thing that actually pleased me was the stiffness of the steering and suspension but I can do that to my Mustang for a couple grand. Out of that article, the M3 would be my last choice.

Personally, I value the results and opinions of Pro driver Randy Pobst (who's driven both the Mustang GT and the Boss now) over a magazine staffer.

They sandbagged the hell out of the BOSS in that article... a 13.0 quarter mile??? Motor Trend clocked a 12.3, faster than any of the ET's listed in that article.

The numbers in that article are incorrect. Here's an article from Mustangs and Fast Fords and the only thing they added to the car was M/T Street Drag Radials and their numbers were never above 12.5 seconds for the 1/4 mile.

I owned an M3 and sold it after 2 years, but before the warranty expired. It was the last 6 cylinder model, so I'm not comparing to the V-8 M3. Here's why I sold it
- not enough torque, but still fun to drive.
- the threads on the seat edges were fraying, and I was always careful with the car
- the pixels in the a/c display were failing, and it seemed to an ongoing defect
- only the dealer could do service and he was 45 minutes away - loaner car was always a Mazda 3-series beater.
For the money, the Boss is a tremendous value. I never had the same thrill in the M3 that I do every time I start the Boss. There's no comparison as a street machine, and I'm sure the car will hold value much better than an overpriced M3.

In Germany right now picking up my new 1M. Costing me within $3,000 of my Boss 302 and it's a really nice car.

Have driven M3 alot (track and street) and now have 5000 miles on my Boss 302 (track and street). I picked up 1M and headed to Nurburgring right away.

So here are my thoughts. The Boss is an awesome ride and I love the "sound and fury", but the M3's and the 1M are much more refined. The torque in the 1M is much better then either V-8 M3 or E46 M3 but it's still no Boss!

Both the Boss and 1M are great on track but the Boss will feel more "planted" because of wheel base ( may also be because I've driven it at tracks I know and not familiar with the Ring).

Which would I rather have? That is tough! The Boss gets my tons of attention at home in NC. But the 1M got TONS of attention at the Nurburgring. If you haven't been, it's car guy Heaven! The 1M got more attention then the Lambo's and Ferrari's and way more then any P-cars! Hell a couple people even had their pictures taken standing next to it, and remember, it's a $46,000 car.

So, the Boss or the 1M? Both are orange. Both are fast. Both are "rare".

****, I'm glad I have both!!!
