i keep meaning to ask you guys this for no other reason than my curiosity. i was looking at my car the other day and noticed that the ECM has letters marked out on the serial number label and handwritten ones in place. Do any of you have the same on your label? it looks like they used an older ECM and marked it with the correct Boss part number at the factory or something.

To me this indicates that the software/firmware was revised after the unit was assembled. Changing the letters by 1 indicates a revision.

so yours is handwritten too? i would think it would make more sense to re-sticker if you had a bunch of ECMs like this, as in the whole boss range. Just curious if they are all like that or if mine was in the middle of changes that caused some of the delays we had early on.

My Focus has this. The Boss is likely powered by the same ECU.

Seriously, I think they just do this when they update the firmware at the last minute.

According to fordparts.com, the PCM's have been revised twice this year. However, there appear to be more versions than that available.
Note: The March 10/11 revision is only for the Boss version. The GT/GT500 PCMs were revised only on May 25th.
1 - Before March 10th, 2011
2 - Between March 11th and May 24th, 2011
3 - From May 25th, 2011 onwards.
