2012 GT500 VS 2012 Boss 302 Laguna Seca

Yeah, another one of those threads.

I am in the market for a new Mustang. I have been litterly calling up every dealer that has a Leguna Seca and GT500 in stock. In Canada, the GT500 is only available at SVT dealers. Here is the delimima, I want a brand new Mustang. Not a used one, or a US import and I am willing to pay a bit more for it. I would ultimately have the Mustang as a DD, but I plan on driving it both on a track and 1/4 mile. More track then 1/4 mile though. That is where the Laguna Seca shines. I was able to locate two of them in Canada, new and unsold. MSRP $59,xxx. One dealer 20 hours from me has one for $63,995 before TTL. The other LS is 30min from me but they want $65,990- before TTL. I am able to purchase locally a new '12 GT500 with the track package for $59,000- before TTL. The GT500 offers leather seats, heated seats, 550HP vs 444 HP and ofcourse the exclusive aggressive styling. However, the GT500 is much heavier, not as rare as the LS(35 LS for Canada), and lacks the handling capabilities I desire. But the LS is so much more expensive.

Which would you go with if you were in my shoes? Maybe I overlooked a point...

EDIT: 2013 Shelby GT500s are out of the question. I can't afford to pay $72k for one before taxes!

sounds like you made up your mind already.... the boss does awesome in drag racing as well...... and since you said mostly track its def the LS you should be after...... although if price is your concern a standard boss might get the job done nicely and be easier on your pocket book

The dealer with the GT500 dropped their price $3k! I am going to see it in person tomorrow, along with the LS later that day.

We'll see!

I may be biased but I would say get the GT500. At the moment they qualify for the Employee Pricing promotion, plus dealers want to get them of the lot so that is why they are willing to go down more.

What Province are you in?

Get a non LS Boss and just add the goodies, brake kit, front spoiler, etc. Very little difference then.

^+1. You can always add goodies to the base Boss, but (hopefully) you can't easily replicate its unique qualities, they definitely make it stand alone. While neither car are "common," I would say even the base Boss is much less so than the Gt500Gt500

For me the Boss just does everything right. The steering, power in every gear, handling and that fantastic sound. The '12 Shelby is fun and has loads of power but the trans gearing always feels like you're in the wrong gear on a road course. If you do get the Shelby make sure it has the Recaro seats, they make the experience so much better.

Now the '13 Shelby would be a tough call, that power and exhaust at full tilt is very seductive.

The only advantage of the LS is the rear brace with rear seat delete, stiffer back sway bar, better wheels/tires. The rear seat delete will happen sooner or later with a roll bar install. The rear brace is nice but still does not replace a roll bar. Wheels, tires and sway bars can easily (and most likely will be replaced with track oriented mods anyway) be upgraded. Yeah, I wish I could have gotten my hands on one, but the base will do just fine.

I'm just trying to get you into a boss, keeping with your comment that you'll be tracking more 1/4 mile stuff.

ROADRUNNER. A personal preference, but I'll take a strong normally aspirated motor over a supercharged one because there is less stuff to blow up.

I agree with the others.
If price is a concern and the $63-65k CAN is pushing your limits for the LS, just get a regular Boss.
To be honest, on a race track the LS laps about 1-1.5 seconds faster, and suffice it to say that 80% of that is the tires.
