all kidding aside, I'd bet money that Topnotch's prediction is almost spot-on for what Ford will present us for a Boss 302. Body kit, hp #'s, suspension, wheels, everything. I personally hope the grille surround is black though. As far as price, who the hell knows.

The new Boss MUST have theese options at least available, if not standard to truly be a Boss in my opinion:

Shaker hood
Magnum 500 wheels (retro or modernized)
Either Calypso Coral (my wish) or Grabber Orange as a color option

Oh yeah. I've been waiting my whole life to own a "new" Boss 302 in Calypso Coral. My uncle had a 1970 Boss in that color and that car was what created my Mustang obsession. To own a new Boss in that color, with Magnum 500's and a Shaker hood would be a dream come true. Other than owning his old Boss or one just like it, that is.

That's my concern. Will Ford make enough of these to satisfy the love affair, or will deals mark these things up something fierce?

id prefer they skip the shaker hood in favor of maintaining good intake flow design. with that 302R intake could they get the redline to 7500? and hp to about 460? 470? more? i hope so

I would say go with the 2012 Boss stripe/design package, i.e., don't ape a previous Boss design.

If there was any thematic consistency to the previous four Boss Mustangs ('69 and '70 Boss 302s and 429s and the '71 Boss 351), it was that there wasn't a set design theme, they were all fairly different both from each other and from year to year other than, perhaps, the font of the Boss name.

Even within models/years there could be a fairly wide variety of implementations depending on how nuts one went with the option sheet, from a fairly stripped-down execution to the full performance-car parade float of slats, scoops and spoilers.

My suggestion, do a fairly understated and unique-to-2012 basic design treatment, but have sufficient styling options for those obliged to go the full-peacock, look-at-MEEEEEE treatment.

I agree, shaker hoods make about 0 sense in the post carburetor age, ending up being a rather clumsy flashbacks to a by-gone era than a truly serious performance element. Rather, keep any 21 century Boss a focused, serious performance tool of today and not some retro nostalgia ride for some aging baby boomers to relive their golden days.

Whatever money might be wasted on a shaker hood, I would rather see go into, say, forged rods, titanium valves, aluminum or CF body pieces or anything else that would truly make a Boss a better performing car.

yeah what he said!

My guess if they do this in this economy, it will be similar to a Bullitt package .. stripes, tune upgrade, perhaps exhaust, interior appointments and minor suspension changes .. for about $4500.

I cannot see Ford making this car the way it should be .. the economy would just not support it IMO.

It should be true to the heritage of the 1969 Boss 302 .. with IRS, but that won't happen.

A shaker hood on a modern fuel injected engine doesn't provide any semblance of performance improvement and truly doesn't fit stylistically on current body style Mustang - despite it's retro theme.

Like Rhumb, I'd much rather see the investment go to hard parts that truly improve the performance of the Boss either in the engine, suspension or brake arena.
