So why have a School Bus yellow one at the Auto Show? Seriously Ford of Canada needs a management shake-up. The current management team is bit by bit turning this life-time Ford fan completely off the brand. And I'm sure I'm not alone. And this is at a time when Ford is doing so much so brilliantly elsewhere.
Seems like SBY is an option for regular Boss here in Canada.
Can't believe they won't have any LS's to Canada. If that is the case it just made my 2012 LS even more rare, resale value will go up!

Hmmm. Just checked, and they were showing a Laguna. tsk, tsk.
Maybe you should get in touch with Jim Kenzie, he's probably someone who would have a following if he were to comment on it.

i think the black roof makes the boss unique to the car. if it has the same color all around as the others, then it can just be an ordinary mustang...with a sticker package...
you know you have a boss with the black roof, plus the vin #
i guess it cost too much to repaint the roof of the car....cost cutting i suppose

Oh, and the reason for the white roof on the '69 race cars and the use of school bus paint on the '70 race cars was all about visibility on the race track. They didn't have two-way radios in the race cars back then and bright colors were the easiest way for the crews to keep track of the cars on a road course.

I believe it has more to do with Ford wanting to style the two new model years similar to the original Boss 302 cars from 1969 and 1970. The '69 SCCA Trans AM race cars had a different color roof from the rest of the car. That was not the case in 1970. That is why the 2012 has a different color roof while the 2013 does not. Also, the side stripes on the '70 race cars did not extend up and over the hood like on the production 1970 Boss 302. Thus the difference between the stripes on the '13 LS and regular Boss. It's all about tradition, not cost.

Actually to paint the roof on the '12 Boss was really not a big deal.
Imagina a rail yard, with a side rail that later rejoins the track, any Boss coming down the line was diverted off on this side track, quickly masked off, roof painted, unmasked, and rejoined the assembly line. Remember, this is happening before there is any glass, any drip rails, trim, etc. very easy to do quickly, and not have to have a perfect line, since these items mentioned will cover up any imperfections.
