Weld Marks in Trunk - Reason for Concern?

Greetings,

We found a weld mark in my wife's 2016 Mustang. We don't know much about welding, but one of our friends said it was because of damage. Is this something we could be concerned about? Attached are photos from both sides of the trunk.

Thank you in advance.

Have you compared it to other examples?

It looks a little sloppy. Can you take the same pic from further away. It's hard to get perspective on where that is in the trunk area.

Post pictures that are zoomed out a little bit. That first weld looks awful and can't be factory.

Also, pull the weather stripping all around the trunk and see what the welds look like there. They should look smooth and clean. If you see burn marks or the metal looks damaged, the car has been in an accident.

What everyone else said...and, check your tail lights for alignment and fitment. If they are not perfectly aligned then it may have been in an accident. I would still have the dealer send it to the body shop to clean up and refinish the joints.

All they should paint is the area where the seams are. Shouldn't be too big a problem matching the paint in that small area.

Accident damage?? NOT!

I looked at mine and the welds look like this. Mine was ordered by me. built 12/10 and I picked it up from dealer 1/13. No damage and no repairs, maybe a welding machine out of adjustment but really good sealing job.

Y'all can't zoom out a little so we can see it in context?

Here they are. Funny, I think it may be auto adhesive and not weld at all. A magnet will not stick to it and parts are a little soft.

Another. The photos are coming in upside down, but when you click on them they are fine. Weird!

All looks good. I actually think it might be automotive adhesive. A magnet will not stick to it and parts are a little soft. ??

It still looks sloppy, but it's a minor point. It's in a area that's relatively hidden and most people wouldn't notice anyway. Things like that are always magnified in the owner's eyes. I'm always finding little stuff on my '14 that really makes no difference. These aren't hand built cars after all.

Glad you put your mind at ease.

Ah. Yeah. That's what I thought it might be.

The join of the 'upper' trunk structure panel (under the glass) and the quarter panel structure.

It isn't gonna get all that wet except condensation maybe, so it's probably a few spot welds, but definitely seam sealer glopped over it... but that's a guess.
