RPM Gauge Red Light

I have a 2015 GT Premium with the track package. The other day I was goofing around a little and noticed the RPM gauge turned red as I was taking it trough the gears. I don't know if I was running it in the track mode or not and I don't know what the RPM's were at the time. I do know it had not hit the rev limiter which is 6,700 or 6,800. I have not seen it since and a couple of times since then I have hit the limiter. I don't want to test in in the track mode unless I have to so does anyone know when and under what conditions this thing turns red.

That's not the issue, when I hit the rev limiter, guess you could consider that redlining, which I have done several times, the gauge turned red (completely) only the one time. Why is that? My thoughts are I may have been in the track mode, which I have only switched to once or twice, or could it be the headlights have to be on. If I were not too lazy I could dig out the owners manual but thought someone on the forum could tell me what's going on. By the way, once the limiter kicks in that's it, just like taking your foot off the accelerator.

It's called a shift light and it will happen in all the driving modes.

Some are saying the tachometer turns red at 7k. If the limiter is set less than 7k how can it ever reach the red light.

If it works like the previous generation, the gas gauge will also light up when you are running low, the oil pressure gauge will light up red if it is too low, I think the temp gauge goes red if it's too hot, BUT only if the headlights are on, as I recall.

I have an Ecoboost, the tach has hash marks at 6500 rpm and double hash marks at 6800 rpm. The tach turns red at 6500 rpm and the rev limiter kicks in at 6800 rpm.

I talked to the tech guy at my Ford dealer this morning (caught him at home, off today). He didn't know under what conditions the tachometer would turn red but would research it tomorrow and let me know. I could simply test it right now but don't like riving it that high. Will post what I find out.

I've seen 7K a couple times, with no limiter, and no lights...I was in normal mode however.

We have just about beat this one to death. I decided to test mine and found out the RPM gauge will light up around 6K+ ONLY when the head lights are on. Doesn't matter what mode the car is in. I made a video (which turned out really good) but I don't know how to post it. For that matter I had to move it to ICloud, due to the size, from my iPhone to view it on my laptop. As Forest Gump said "that's about all I know about this". Thanks for all the input and if anyone is interested I never heard back from my tech guy.
