Radar detector

Thinking about getting one. I haven't had one since my '86 pony. What's the "hot" one these days?

I like my Valentine 1. I need to send it in for an upgrade so the newer cars with collision avoidance stop setting it off.

i don't think it's collision avoidance setting it off. I notice it with what I think is the adaptive cruise control on Infiniti vehicles, and when I do get an alert it's on Laser band, not K.

I have the Passport 9500ci in my convertible. I mounted the display in the rear view mirror. It alerts you to speed cameras and red light cameras. It also has front and rear laser jammers and is able to be updated from a laptop.

I also have the Passport Max in my DD. This can also be updated thru your computer.

I'm not knocking the V1 because I've owned one for a few years but It fell short on a few features and I hated having to mail it away to update it.

I used to rely on my radar detector until I downloaded "waze" traffic app. It's drive inputted, traffic app. Where other drivers report Police presence (among other road info). I drove for three hrs on the interstate and city and the reports where about 99% accurate.

You are going to need a radar detector that is not detectable by cops. They carry a radar detector detector (RDD) that will alert them if you have a radar detector. You should definitely get one that is invisible which doesn't leave you with much options. Valentine is completely out. If you are looking at a windshield detector than THE BEST in detection distance is an Escort Redline (Its invisible to RDD but no GPS features). You can look at an installed radar detector but they will cost you anywhere from $900-$2000. Might want to look at laser shifters to if you are serious about not getting caught speeding.

What's the black and white piece above the dome lights? I have my V1 hardwired and mounted above the mirror, then I have the concealed display mounted in the instrument panel between the speedo and the tach. Fits perfectly and leaves the V1 completely dark so I don't have a tell-tale red trail when the top's down.

That's the control module for his 9500ci. https://www.escortradar.com/passport9500ci/

It's a remote system. The radar detector horns are typically located on the grille somewhere and around the license plate area for the back.

thanks and very cool, although I kinda like my idea - mounting the display low so it doesn't show from behind.

Here's a better pic of the display that I put in the mirror. Like mentioned before this detector isn't detectable but it is a little pricey.
