I am really impressed with what Ford is doing - New designs & engines. I am saving my pennies for the Next Gen Mustang! I may have to buy a new 2012 Focus as well-lol

It'll be interesting to see what the clay ends up looking like... In this early stage it almost has more similarity to a Miata/Challenger mutt than a Mustang...

Clay photo overlay
I'm pretty sure it's a Mustang or even a Cougar. I cobbled a body based on the clay. It's about the same wheelbase and wheel size as the curent Mustang, but is lower with a much shorter rear overhang. It's lower and the windshield rake is more extreme.

Im sure the platform is flexible to variants as GM's Zeta platform which underpins the 2010 Camaro and Pontiac G8. Two different sizes, weights, and designs. Not to mention the zeta underpins a larger version the Pontiac G8/Holden Commodore......its the longer wheelbase Chevy Caprice PPV/ Holden Stateman. So I wouldnt worry about it lingering mechnically and cosmetically tot he Falcon in the future except it may motivate Ford to go IRS and get a few monkey's off its back. I for one love the SRA. But even then I wouldnt call IRS a given. The Camaro and G8 two different IRS (Camaro is an asymetrical axle design).
Which Im willing to bet Ford will take a page from GM's book and have a more international R&D with the future Mustang. The Aussie's will prolly like to have a Falcon with a similar 5.0, as some here prolly like to see a Falcon replace the dinosaur Crown Vic's domain. So I can see Ford having this cooperation from both divisions

Wow, that comparison does indeed seem to emphasize the point that this car is noticeably smaller than the current Mustang.

Looking at the profile my guess is that the clay model is likely going to be a concept for the proposed Mustang based 'MKR' some say will share a platform with the next Mustang.

I don't know if it's ever been brought up, but the spy pic (which was dead on btw) from a wile back of the new taurus had in the background what many thought was the clay model of the of the 2014/15 stang. It's in the upper right, you can't tell all that much tho...

A yes, I remember that. I surprised no-one made more of it at the time.
Looks like that could be a Mustang rendering above the Taurus, too. Certainly looks like a Fastback, although it could be a '60s car picture for inspiration.
What would you give for a tour of the design studios?

Good work, TN.
Only thing that worries me, especially with that second image, is that the '05 concept was only 2 seater. Whilst my Mustang is an indulgance, it's an indulgance I like my wife and 2 children to be able to share.
However, if Ford can shrink it and still keep the interior packaging similar to the current car, I'm all for that.
