This seems all wrong. Just because it is loved everywhere doesn't mean it should have other country input. So many cars are loved because their own country heritage that makes the cars what they are.
Only italians can build a lamborghini right, only japanese can build a skyline right, only brits can build a aston martin right, and only americans can build a Mustang right!

agreed. the appeal to the world is its Americaness
Although the global market may provide design advice Ford has made it very clear that the Mustang will not share the global Kinetic design, along with other such vehicles as the F150. See this YouTube video:

One thought that has gotten some debate is, with the phasing out of the current Falcon in Australia, will Ford use the Mustang platform for a global performance coupe? A Cougar maybe? Who knows...

The Mustang was originally envisioned as a European type Sports Car back in the early 60's, so I think some Global Input wouldn't hurt, and since the Mustang is such a Global Icon, I think other regions may throw a different, yet equally interesting spin on some classic Mustang Styling Cues. I don't think anyone will try to "Reinvent the Mustang" However take a look back at the Jack Telnack designed 79 Fox Body Mustang's They were Nothing like any previous Mustang, but look how popular they were and still are.
No mater where the winning proposal comes from, It will still be Built In America and they even said the Dearborne Studio will translate it into a production vehicle.

Looks like we may get a repeat of the Mustang II or maybe a Probe. A global Mustang? I don't know how you guys feel, but it makes me sick.

I don't think they were that popular. In fact, Ford almost killed Mustang in the late 1980s (and was planing to replace it with Probe) due to slow sales.
I hope the global input goes toward more quality in every part of the car. You know like a full painted underside instead of rusty axles. Improvements to the still cheap areas of the interior. The little things that take the cars quality up a notch.

Well, the Germans now build Lamborghini's, Rolls Royce's and Bentley's, and Aston Martins are now built by a Middle Eastern owner, so you really can't say that.

Sorry just wanted to clear that up.
Onward and forward.

Moving to '2014 - Next Generation' section, but will leave a link for a couple of days . . .
And I have no issue with (potential) "One Ford" involvement . . . .

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Does the Mustang II/Pinto King Cobra ring a bell? Look on the bright side.....the S197s will become even more desirable then than they already are now. I have no desire to sell or trade mine anyway because the huge aftermarket we have will suit my needs for many many years to come.

I think the Mustang is safe. The article state's that when shown pic of celebrities the most popular was Steve McQueen, which I think is spot on. Let's see what they come up with first. The current Dodge Charger was designed in America and most people feel it's terrible looking.
