Mustang Makeover: What Does Ford Have In Mind?
[quote=Topnotch;6337496]
Oh my god that is horrendous. I can't imagine how much work that must have taken, but it doesn't make the end product any better looking!
I actually loved the Fox body too but it followed the pony car theme too. If it had tri tail lamps and a pony in the grille it would have been almost exactly like a 65-68 Mustang in overall look. QUOTE]

[quote=Twin Turbo;6337501]Exactly, a period correct version of the tri tail lamps would have looked nice. Also a small thin grille opening with a pony would have fit right in. But you can't just slap them on anything.
Article from edmunds saying a ford insider said the car will look like something close to this

nice chop, but yuck... the only thing I like about that is the rear fender flares.
The more I look at rendering the more it grows on me. As much as I LOVE the vintage look of the current models, I know sales numbers have dropped for ford and by the time this comes out it will have been 10 years with a similar body design.
Still has the extra rear windows and the tr-taillamps as well as the hockey stick design...when I see it I see a mustang...a radically updated modern mustang but the basic cues are there, its aggressive looking and still looks like a mustang. I would like to see a flatter hood and front, but compared to all the other renderings I've seen I like this one the best. Unfortunately, only time will tell what is ACTUALLY produced and if I want to buy it or not...

Not a bad looker............but I hope the production car doesn't have head lamps that wrap around the sides like that. The bluff front ends are what make the current Mustang, Camaro and Challenger stand out. Oh, and it needs a longer hood.
I'd give that a generous 6.5 outta 10

I hate to disagree with you, but the 58-66 Thunderbird's Far Outsold the 55-57's and created a Whole New Segment of Automobile and introduced many Innovations. The 4 Seat Thunderbird was a Stunning Success! Actually the Highest Selling Thunderbirds of All Time were the 77-79's. I Truly wish Ford would Bring It Back. as for the Mustang II it has been given such a Bad Rap, it was the Right Car at the Right Time.
Man, all these rounded concept renderings just come off as Accord Coupe, Genesis, Eclipse, G37 looking. Maybe too refined for a Mustang?
I have no problem with a move away from the retro look, but how about something unique? Something tough and mean looking. Not V8 Eclipse with a Mustang badge and Fusion front clip.
I dunno, just hope that when the real thing comes out I still don't feel that way about it. I still have hope!

Well, I don't hate it. Needs to get rid of the Blue Oval emblem, and didn't we hear that the Dorito quarter window was going away? Hood needs to be longer and the rear needs some tweaking and reworking. I'd also like the hips to be more defined and "muscular".
Frankly, overall, I'd still call that car "retro". If that's what people are calling "non-retro", I think I'll be okay. Still plenty of nice classic Mustang DNA there.

I wonder how many oversea's sales Ford is expecting? I don't see too many since Europeans tend to purchase hatchback's that are more family friendly. Not too many Europeans have second cars sitting in their garage they drive only on nice weekends and 2 door sedans/coupes/hardtops died out in Australia back in the early 70's with few exceptions.
------------------------------
BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Peugeot, etc....all sell 2 door sedans/coupes but these are all premium brands. Is Ford going to attempt to market the Mustang as a premium coupe in Europe and Australia?.....I think this is very risky and a probable failure.
-----------------------------
So....why is Ford worrying so much about global production? I understand they need to lower the demographic on those who are purchasing the Mustang here in the USA and Canada, but please don't worry about non existing sales in Europe and Australia (I doubt Asia will be a big market either.....I don't think we'll be seeing many Mustangs in Bejing, Delhi, or Tokyo).
