Interesting point you bring up there. Wonder what the advantages would be? Manual has some for sure. For one, you can start out in a higher gear so you don't get as much torque to the wheels so you won't spin as easily (although my brother's V6 auto Camaro has a "second gear start" button on the console). Two, you can feather the clutch to control how much power youre using. That's saved my *** on some icy hills, just two weeks ago. It also makes it easier to rock the car out of a rut, and coast when you don't want engine braking.

not sure if it is tune, but i am able to start 1-2-3 any gear on start and ease in. any time i see a cop near me at the light. i put in 3 and give it gas. as 1 is little loud and i have got pulled over once for that.

i was made fun of many times in car shows when one sees i drive an auto but when i go to track or drag events it is all autos there so feel home

While you can't start in any gear you want, you can easily start in 2nd gear and that's generally good enough. Between that and the snow/wet drive mode you should be fine. And if you often find yourself in situations where that isn't enough, I would give serious consideration to a good set of snow tires.

I don't care which is faster or not, stronger or weaker, etc... to me a car like these without a stick is a crime. Part of the visceral driving experience in a muscle/sports car is banging through gears. It's a crime that everything is going towards autos. The feeling of a car when driving is completely changed with a manual. Everything today is about a stopwatch or a dyno number. If the MT82 breaks eventually, just throw a tremec in there and call it a day. That's what mustangs are meant for. Beat em, break em, fix em, and then repeat. And there are many, many mt82s out there that don't have problems. The Internet tends to exacerbate any problem. How many people do you think are going to start a thread saying their MT82 doesn't have a problem.

There are times I wish mine were a manual, but the auto does drive good in my opinion. You speak truth about the internet exacerbating problems. Based on what I've read, I'd have to assume that Ford has never made a repair under warranty, all hoods bubble up, and all MT82's are garbage.

My MT-82 crunches into gear constantly, I documented my hood and trunk bubbles on day one of my car when it only had 7 miles, before I even signed the papers, they made me take all my suspension parts off before they'd cover my 2nd rear end rebuild when the dealer screwed up the first rebuild...oh yeah and that was to address the screaming rear end that it also had from day one. That's not to mention all the interior rattles, squeaky Recaro driver's seat and water being trapped in my right rear quarter panel.

Thankfully I have high flow cats, or I'm sure I'd be on my 4th set of front LCAs.

And then there's this. 70,000 trouble free miles with an MT82. My point is there will always be some cars that have problems. Every single forum has them. I am also a member of the acura forums for my TL. If you checked out that forum and the problems people posted you would never buy a honda/acura meanwhile my 04 TL has 281,000 miles and still going strong with just regular maintenance.

If you have to ask, get the auto. Someone who would truly enjoy the manual would never even think about getting an auto in a V8 Mustang. With physical exceptions of course, bad knees and whatnot.

I know, I know, the auto is faster in many cases but for me it's not about tenths of a second, it's about the feel and the sound of holding a gear longer or engine braking, etc. paddle shifting is nowhere near the same experience.

And my wife has a saying..."if it has 2 doors, it should have 3 pedals!"

I LOVE HER!

I can't say much for the shifter on the 2015+, but my 2014 stock shifter was trash. I replaced it within the first 6 months and it changed the whole shifting experience. I daily drive mine in a mix of heavy stop ang go traffic and some open highway. There are days that I wish I had an automatic. However, when I drive an automatic I am at first happy that I don't have to shift, but quickly miss the feeling of being more connected and in control of the car. If you are new to shifting, you will quickly learn on this car. Keep that traction control on until you get better at it.

I've always been a three pedal guy but I've been hearing so many good things about the present automatic that I'm starting to doubt myself.

Auto Transmission Vs Manual Transmission

As of my personal experience, I always preferred the automatic one. Some of the advantages of automatic transmission car is that they are less complex. You don't need to panic about shifting gears and fuel consumption. Sometimes there might be an issue regarding [Spam link removed] and its maintenance is really costly as compared to manual transmission.

Mod: Now your personal experience consists of being banned from a forum because you ignored the rules and posted spam links. I hope you drive better than you behave on forums.

Welcome to the forums!

I see what you're saying, but automatics are only less complex for driving. They're more complex overall as a component, especially these days with the electronic controls that talk to the engine to shift and such.

As to the panicking, I can tell you that if you're gonna panic about fuel consumption and shifting gears, I'm really not quite sure I want you behind the wheel of the car, because goodness knows what the heck you'll be panicking about just driving out there in the world with all those other idiots on the road, "Charlotte".

But then, I don't think you're long for this forum, given the spam link you stuck in there. Howdy and all, but probably see ya later!

I've got an 07 GT auto but if I had my way I'd have a stick shift, that said I'm old school and have driven stick shifts for decades on the other hand my son who also drives the car can't drive stick and refuses to let me teach him. I installed a TCI Street Fight Ratching Shifter which allows me to still have some shifting fun and allows for my son to still drive the car.
