Your impossible sometimes. Maybe MT got it wrong but:

Mustang
Overall Length: 188.1"
Overall Height: 55.6"
Overall Width: 73.9"

M3
Overall Length: 180.4"
Overall Height: 57"
Overall width: 71.5"

So Mustang is a little shorter, interesting.

BTW, you're impossible sometimes!
I don't really care, just making a looks comparison to style. Just want something solid looking and a little more aerodynamic maybe, just not busy. Classic.

its 181.7in according to http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/3...-M3-Coupe.html

and my point is it would be useless going to M3 dimensions because visually they aren't very different. would just reduce trunk and engine bay space without a dramtic effect on the look

Even though we all bash on the Mustang II years of 74-78 it was the right car at the time.

People act as if the Mustang was in great peril prior to the 2005 model and it just was not the case. The the 2nd through 4 gen cars all achieved a great deal of success too! Compare the 99-04 sales to the 05-09 sales and you won't see that big of a difference. Can you imagine that the 1974 and 1994 Mustangs won Motor Trend car of the year yet the 2005 Mustang did not?

I think Ford did a great job with the 5th gen Mustang but retro styling is starting to get played out. Because of the Camaro and Challenger jumping on with the same idea Ford should mix it up. Perhaps it is just me but I think the new Mustang, Camaro and Challenger are all rather similar looking now.

let the debates begin! lol
Yes,I'm tired of J Mays taking about how he got the Mustang back on track in '05. It was doing just fine until then, all he did was basically add round headlights. I'm not bashing the '05-10 models,I love those, but c'mon, the '69-04 that Mays apparently hates some highs and lows, but mostly highs. Enough highs to run the all of the competition out of town.....for awhile at least. I believe the '99-04 sold more models than the current one,but I'm too lazy to check.

they better have with this economy. But I agree. Those other models he mentioned weren't a failure by any means

I have a feeling the Mustang will evolve into a cheaper BMW. With so much comparison i can see the Mustang taking the form of the M3 with just a Pony in the grill, hockey stick on the side and some tri lights in the back and you will have the 2014 Mustang. Any photoshop kings want a try at it?

Last I checked the 99-04 Mustang killed the Camaro and Firebird not the 05

I think the problem that may face the mustang in part due to the retro style is that the car's market has changed. Though many young people like the look of the 05-11 Mustang it was probably built to appeal to the more affluent baby boomer generation. I think that is in part why we have seen such a huge increase in MSRP over the years. Though the car is coming with much better equipment than ever before it is now now longer a "cheap car". Even though the new base model is a pretty good bang for the buck the GT has gotten a bit rich for many people.

Just happened on this thread and had to post. When I started driving, the new edges started coming out and I still think they are amazing looking cars. Then the s197s came out and I was very disappointed. IMO they are extremely bland looking besides the gt500 and shelby gt. I had a book that explained the design of the sn95 cars and they had three different choices of a bland design, a very aggressive design, and a compromise named Rambo, Jenner, and Schwarzenegger. They went with the compromise, but with the s197s i feel like they went bland but that was fixed with the 2010. I'll probably own several new edges in my lifetime and only wished they would have continued the design but with a platform that wasn't from 1979. So since I again like the 2010s, my vote goes for the 911 idea. Slightly tweak and add tech and performance. IRS for life.

From the video he says we will see a very cool mustang approaching 2013. So does that mean in 2012 we will see pictures of the next mustang or actual production release?

The difference between an SGT and GT Mustang is minimal and mostly amounts to a tacked on scoop, a billet grille, and some stripes. They even used the standard polished 18" Bullitt style wheels.

The model won't be out till later, but that might not stop them from showing a teaser or concept to get the juices flowin.

I just hope we get a real concept like the 2003 Mustang concept car. It gave us a real idea how the 2005 Mustang was going to look. I was not a fan of the italian inspired concept that we got that Ford insiders considered the concept for the 2010 Mustang it really did not reveal much to us.

I don't recall reading that it was meant to fortell the look. It did have some resemblance in the front clip and the side profile. I thought it was a pure design exercise by which Ford happened to bless it be done.

Smaller Size

I can see where they may have to go to a smaller size for reduced weight and better fuel economy, but the '03 was just too crowded for me. That is one reason I moved up to the '07. Let's not get another Mustang II for heavens sake!
