I have a 12' GT premium coupe right now that I got in 2011. My car is 4 years old and has 25,000 miles. The trade in value for my car is $20,000-$22,000. I can afford another car payment right now with my new job. I really like the 2015 Mustang but I'm also open to other brands.

This will be a daily driver so I been thinking about the 2.3 ecoboost, but I can't decide weather to get the convertible version or not. If I get the ecoboost coupe I feel like it'll be a downgrade to my 5.0. The 2.3 convertible will also be a downgrade in terms of the engine, however, it's more expensive then what I paid for my 5.0 when new and I never had a convertible before. For this reason I feel like the 2.3 convertible will be less of a downgrade. A 2.3 convertible premium with the options I want comes out to $38,000 msrp. At this price I can get a GT premium coupe with the options I want for just $2000 more. The GT premium convertible doesn't have the PP option and I want the PP.

I would say it comes down to either a 2.3 convertible or a new 5.0 coupe. Thing about the 5.0 is I don't really feel like it's an upgrade. It's heavier with just a tiny power bump, it gets less MPG, and I actually like the solid rear axle in the 2012s I feel like the solid rear axle makes the car more unique. I know the new 5.0 has a better interior, more comfortable, and I think it's better looking.

I also considered the base V6 convertible, it's only $31,000 and I can probably talk it down a little more. Thing about this is there's no premium option and I really want the leather and screen in the center.

My budget is about $40,000 and I'll be trading in my 2012 GT premium coupe for about $21,000. I will be financing the car, please help me decide what I should purchase and what you would do. I'm also open to other car brands.

Buy a used Boss. I think the new Mustangs are overpriced with the good options.

If you want a '15 you should be able to find a GT coupe with PP close to what you're looking if you're patient and find a dealer willing to work with you.

I went thru a similar decision in 2012. Be sure to double check the PP is available on the EB - I didn't think it was on any convertible.

My advice is be sure to drive the convertible. Take it on familiar roads. Drive it top up in noisy situations. Play the radio loudish and step outside to hear what your motoring neighbors will hear, etc.

I decided against to convertible because of the noise (top up) in DD situations, and the lack of PP.

I'd also go for the delux interior - best feature of the S550 IMO.

So test drive the convertible in your driving routine and be sure to get alongside a semi or motorcycle. In my case, the noise was too much for a DD. Totally fine for a leisure / hobby car., IMO.

Lets see.... a new GT at about 38G, trade in around 21G, thats about 17G plus other fees, and tax on top of it, probably close to 19G.

So the question is, are you willing to pay the 19,000 bucks and is it worth just for the looks, same engine +15hp, IRS, different interior.

the Ecoboost will be a downgrade, so paying money to downgrade is not rational in my book.

If you get at least X Plan for the new car & the dealer will give you 21k for your trade, I'd say that's a nice deal. I haven't been able to get $24.5 for my 13GT premium with 5600 miles. Incentives are great BUT the more they go up I'm sure your trade value will go down. Good luck, not bad choices to have !! Scott

Performance Pack is available on the Ecoboost Vert. It's even available on the Ecoboost vert with an auto tranny.

I struggled whether to get the vert or not. Those that have them say get it. Those that don't generally say not too. It's 50-50.


I ended up going with the vert. I can tell you I would never go back. It's super awesome in my book.


The most enjoyable time driving a car EVER is 10:30 at night 80 degrees outside coming home from the boys golf night with the top down. I don't even want to get home, just drive around with the radio blasting enjoying the evening.


So +1 on vert from a first time vert owner.

I personally would go with a '12+ BOSS, but if you're really set on a S550, I would wait a year or so and get the GT w/ track pack (supposedly beats the former's lap times). A year will see some new platform kinks get worked out and the prices will ease up a bit. Motor trend has a good review here, makes a lot if comparisons:

Well bud, I feel you on this. Here's the thing... You said something that pretty much tells me that you're motives are different than what you think.

You said the power bump in the 15 gt isn't enough to warrant going that way... Even with the better interior, exterior (subjective), and suspension... Which you said you like the SRA... In that case you're better sticking with what you have or going the used route for a Boss like others have said.

Really, if you're in it for a sizeable bump in performance then you're going to have to wait for a refresh or something... Now if you're trying to justify getting a better interior, convertible, new look, and better mpgs... Then the EB is probably you're best bet. It will be less powerful and not have the visceral feeling of a Natually Aspirated V8 winding all the way 7000 rpms, but if that's not a priority then that answers your question! What's more important: looks, interior, convertible, having a brand new vehicle... Or saving money, having more power, keeping the live axle.

Now you are making a point to say you'll switch manufacturers... Well the only thing with the kind of power that would be an upgrade from the 5.0 is the 2015 challenger scat pack. If you want 480 horsepower and a fat pig body... That fits your bill for price as well. If you want a vert, that's not going to happen with Dodge.

Really comes down to what you value as important. I wouldn't trade my 2014 for a 2015 for any real money, but I would for a little bit f drop off. It won't happen for me. Now... If and when a AWD Focus RS comes to town.. That might get my attention. All about what you value.

Why trade a 2012 GT for a 2015? A 2012 is faster from light to light than a 2015, it's a lot better looking also! If it was way better I would under stand but the 2015 is heavier and slower "period". Save you money and wait until 2018 when Ford drops the 5.2L Voodoo as a standard engine in the Mustang GT! Hopefully they fix that ugly fish gill led crap and Fusion front end by then. Unless you like to wipe your arz with you're money!

I would agree that's a prime use of a vert. I have an old one and they are great for leisure. I almost bought a '12 vert based on my love of my old one. I'm just saying drive before you buy, in situations like you'll be using the car.

Slower, really, heavier ? What 150lbs & a fraction of a second slower ? I'll trade for the way nicer interior & better handling any day. Oh, & my 13 GT looks like an old puss parked next to the 15.

I say wait a year also. You still have a pretty new car right now. We bought a vert and didn't use it as much as we thought we would. It was nice but and I would only get another one if it was for my wife. Race cars are all hard tops.
