How does the order process work?

I just ordered a 2015 GT premium coupe on Friday (put down a deposit on an order from the factory). The salesman said he put it in the system today, but wouldn't have an order number for a few days... Is this how it works? I thought they got an order number right away? So I called Ford CA and the CA Tech said she didn't know. Doesn't the system spit out a unique number for every order going into it?

It took 3 days to get my order #, the sales person should have it soon.

For what it's worth, I've ordered 2 2015 Mustangs and both times I left with the order number in hand. Not sure why it would take any time at all.

Thanks for the response, Will. I guess now that I've pulled the trigger, it can't come soon enough! Just have to grin and bear it.

No prob. yeah when I left the dealer after placing my order, my sales person didn't give me the order # either. I messaged Deysha here on this forum and she found my order based on the description (color, options) I ordered. I also gave her my dealer #. After 3 days I called my sales person to see if the order # Deysha gave me was correct and the sales person said yes. Don't even worry about it for now, sit in for the long run.

Well, yeah, Leech. That kind of what I thought, like any database gives you some kind of reference number, right? I was thinking they were getting tired of my bugging them, because prior I had been negotiating price, going back and forth between dealers, and maybe they were just jerking me around. I am at their mercy, that's why I wished I knew an "insider."

But you're right anyway, Will. I waited 14 weeks for my 2011 and it was tough.

OK. I see it in the system (which is working, even tho it looks sort of pathetic...) and Deysha confirmed it (thanks, Deysha!). Now for the hard part. Waiting! Thanks for your input, all!

It is looking pathetic , especially in this day and age. Mine is supposed to be delivered 3/15 but I'm stuck in "awaiting shipment" so I don't think that's going to happen. My cars been on hold for weeks !

Now that I see it on the system, which is a real kick, I am wondering how long are the "typical" times a vehicle stays in each status. Does anybody know?

There's really no set times, Salguod. They all vary.
