Apple Car Play 2016 Mustang? Was it ever released...

Greetings,

I am just wondering if the Apple Car Play update ever came out for the 2016 Mustang? If so, how do I get it?

Thank you.

They still call it SYNC, but Microsoft is not part of the equation anymore. I think the OS is QNX based now.

OP, we don't know.

Make an account on syncmyride.com. Follow the instructions for updates there. Before updating, check to see if the CarPlay update is included.

I have had a lot of trouble getting straight answers out of the SYNC community in general regarding iOS features. It seems everyone is on Android or only uses their phone to make calls.

Ford was supposed to release the update originally by the summer of 2016. Then it got pushed to being released by the end of 2016. Now they are saying "sometime" in 2017 (if at all IMO). I have reached out many times to Ford and cannot get an answer as to whether they are even releasing it anymore. I know they can release it because there is a leaked software update (directly from Ford) that gives you the new update on 2016 MY cars where you can use Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. I never installed it because they said it WILL void your warranty unless it's an OTA update released specifically for that MY.

Many of us bought our Mustangs based on the promise of Android Auto or car play. Only wish is that I could make Ford feel as I do. Very angry

I updated my 2016 Mustang's Sync 3 to the latest firmware, and Android Auto works like a charm.

I tried to update my synch 3 firmware to version 2.2 which is now officially out. Followed the instructions to the letter and put the proper files on the flash drive. Started up the car, plugged in the flash drive, got the message like "performing software update" and left the car running for an hour. Nothing happened. Shut the car off (which you are not supposed to do), started her up and checked the synch version and it was 1.0. I did not break anything, but the update did not happen. Tried plugging in the flash drive again, but it was ignored.

So can anyone determine what I did wrong? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.

CarPlay

If no one has answered you. You have to unzip the file directly onto the thumb drive. Did mine today. Now I'm lookin for the best price for the USB port. Part number HU5Z19A387A. Best I found so far was Ebay @ $60.00
Should take about 30 for the update. I started my car, plugged in the thumb drive and it took off. Told me when it was done.
Cheers

Thanks for responding. I have already tried that and it did not work. I CAN tell you what worked in my case. I did a total reset of SYNCH 3. Then I tried this again and it worked like a charm.

2016's with Sync 3 simply need to download the 2.x update from the Ford Owner website and get a new USB hub for inside the center console to get CarPlay working properly.
